Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors The Novel (999) is a thrilling adventure story from acclaimed writer Kotaro Uchikoshi that takes readers on a suspense-filled journey full of danger, terrifying choices, and unexpected twists toward a variety of endings that may or may not see them coming out alive on the other side.
Nine individuals, seemingly strangers, find themselves awakening to a rude truth – they’re trapped on a ship that will sink in nine hours, and must play a deadly game in order to escape. Kidnapped by the mysterious Zero, these nine must solve puzzles and uncover the location of the elusive ninth door before time runs out. Each player is tied to a bracelet that controls a bomb within their bodies. One wrong move and they explode. However, beyond this life-or-death game lies questions that they must answer: Why have they been brought here and, more importantly, who is Zero?

Great story. A cult classic.
One of the best narrative experiences in gaming, ever. Yeah, the puzzle rooms aren’t included (they are the meat of the gameplay in the original DS release), but it’s still 100% worth the download imo (especially if this is your only option to experience it). Make sure you see every ending, learn all you can about the characters and seek out the “true” ending path. Don’t think of the other endings as bad, however. You NEED to see them to understand the story, they are essential. Use the flow chart to keep track, but don’t sweat your choices the first time. Just go with your gut and see what happens.
I would rate it 5 stars, but it no longer works on ios11, so I can’t use it anymore. If they ever update it, I’ll change it back to 5.
Read this before you buy it.
So this 'game' is just a visual novel, and it might be called that but all you do is click the screen to read the next sentence and every so often you select a number.
I didn't know this but if you buy the DS version you can solve puzzles through out the story, were as this version the characters just solve them anyways and you have no part.
It has so many plot holes and unanswered questions.
Especially the many endings. There's one main ending, and I did enjoy looking at the other endings but like I said, plot holes and unanswered questions.
One very important fact is that this app drains your battery charge like there's no tomorrow and your phone (or what ever device) will go really hot to touch. Which you know, can't be good.
All this app is reading, reading, reading. And I recommend the story but if you have a DS, get the DS version but if you hate solving puzzles and just want to read buy this version but remember it drains your battery and makes your device hot to touch.
Good Visual Novel
A really solid VN with a great story that will mostly keep you interested throughout, however I have a couple of minor criticisms, in that the game feels half complete with the puzzles taken out, having the characters tell you the solution and solve it on there own makes me feel a lot less immersed, also there are points where the characters throw random facts at you, that are barely even relevant at the time and can be quite boring without much context, although it's pretty obvious that information is going to be useful later. Still all in all great read
