The review below is pointless… The entire point of an MDM agent is to manage devices, if you didn’t want your employer to have control of your device, you can politely decline.

One the back-end set up is done on the server (I speak from experience, I set this up for a fleet of 50+ iDevices at work), the actual enrolment process is very easy, just sign in with your domain email account and Authentication and the app does the rest. All you’ll have to do is accept a couple of prompts while it installs profiles on your device.

Overall a very polished and clean app, would highly recommend for easy management of your BYOD or managed devices!

Took over my iPad and slowed it down

I installed this as our company wants us to be able to access company documents and charts on our personal iPads. After installing and reading all the warnings, my iPad 2 ended up with a passcode to unlock it which couldn't be removed without deleting the app. It also gave 3rd parties control over my iPad which I didn't like. Most people in my company have tried it and binned it, mainly because of the performance degradation to the speed of the iPad: slow, twitching screens, Safari hanging and of course concerns about privacy. So although the uptake for AirWatch looks impressive, it doesn't reflect the number of people who have deleted it after trying.

Terrible invasion of privacy

It allows tracking of your movements by a hazily referenced third party. It allows an unnamed server to access your phone and install software on it.

None of these is necessarily bad, but the exact nature of what can be accessed, when, and exactly by whom isn't clear enough.

Warnings that an unknown server to me would install two pieces of unexpected software popped up at a random time- while I was driving. It sat up right over my sat nav app. I declined the two apps because I had no idea what they were. Air Watch deleted my email account.
