Pretty, but buggy

This seemed like the answer to all my evernote gripes - that evernote is simply not that nice for writing notes in and has no markdown support. Broadly, it does both of these things and is much easier on the eye. Sadly however, it’s got odd little bugs which undermine it for me - i use bulleted lists (outlines) a lot and it nearly always fails to render them correctly. Given that 80% of my notes are based around indented lists this is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I come back to it regularly, but i also keep leaving because the bugs irritate me so much. The idea that this is a ‘final’ version which can then be set aside when a separate version 2 comes out irks me greatly - make this bug free before you start on a whole new app!

Where have you gone Alternote developers?

Alternote suited me perfectly when I first found it. Lightweight, with none of the extra 'features' I didn't need. I use it every day. However, for the last couple of months I get an error when I start the program. It does disappear but I get conflicted copies of some files (maybe it's a synch issue?) and it's starting to 'feel' a little flaky.

I've emailed the developer twice now asking for a fix - or even an acknowledgement - with no luck. I appreciate that small companies sometimes find it difficult to continue to develop products for the App Store environment but this is *so good* that I'd hate to see it wither on the vine. Come on Alternote. Keep it going!

Pretty but missing some features

The app has a minimalist appearance and this is its most attractive feature.

Formatting is fairly limited and especially irritating is the lack of filtering by tags inside a notebook. Also the inline PDF view is not available in this app.

Tags are displayed as a drop down list which makes it very difficult to see the wood from the trees. A grid would make it much easier to identify the tag you’re looking for. Also, why import all tags when you are only syncing certain notebooks. Much better to import only the tags that apply to the notebooks being synced accross.

The official Evernote app is unable to offer multiple highlight colors as a formatting option but it does support highlights in the text, as anyone who’s pasted from other apps will be aware of. It would be a wonderful addition to include this feature in Alternote.

All in all I would expect a lot more from a paid app than a prettier but more crippled version of Evernote.
