So far so good

Downloaded the free version just to try out as I wanted a simple sketching app which offered a good selection of brushes and wasn’t quite as heavy as Photoshop. Honestly, so far it’s been pretty good for what I want. I decided to upgrade to the pro version as I was fed up of subscription pop-ups and wanted to get access to more brushes which was fine, my only gripe is the lack of canvas setup initially, i’d like to be able to select a canvas size when creating a new piece instead of having to go through the menu, image size uncheck 'keep proportions' and then input document sizes, I like to work with traditional paper sizes to make printing easier so would be really useful if that were an option or I could stop it from maintaining proportions initially.

Otherwise I love the app, the navigation is useful and not too obtrusive, not too keen personally on the Brush and Colour pucks, would prefer something smaller like Corel Painter/PS have, so I don’t use them. Perspective tools are brilliant and much easier than having to download plugins like PS. Can’t really comment on the restore issue as i’ve not encountered it yet.

So far so good!

the restore does not work

I got to say I am a bit miffed with the restore feature, it simply does not work, I have been waiting for the restore for 4 hours and nothing is happening, for some reason it is not connecting, I checked my subscritpion on ITunes and Autodesk SkrtchBook, it was still active and the exirey date is on the 19th of May for both, I tried sending them a ticket or whatever the thing they wanted me to send to report the bug, but just takes me somewhere else, so I will be cancaling my subscription for the meantime which I do not really want to do, it is a very lovely app and I have fallen in love with it, but you guys should try to fix that restore feature and the layout of your website, I got lost one too many times, looks nice, just hard to navigate at times.

But I refuse to leave on a negative note, the app itself is very easy to use and works like Tool Paint Sia, you can customise brushes to fit your needs and download brushes that other users made, my favourite tool has to be the Manga one, love the pen tool in that one.

I hope this review is informative and I hope you fix the problem as soon as possible.

Developer Response ,

Hello SleepyLotty, I'm terribly sorry for the delayed response! I've sent off your feedback to our dev team. I've asked them to look into the restore issue - I've seen other people mention this. After talking with support, they asked me to send you the following. If that doesn't fix things, I'll give them your login name (SleepyLotty) and they will look for a ticket from you. I hope this helps!

Download it from AppStore > Enter Password for iTunes > Run software and exit of out 'buying subscription" and under My Account > Sign Out and Log In
NOTE: If you have already downloaded it, you just cancel buying subscription and Log In.

Here are additional instructions, if the above solution doesn't work.

To restore your SketchBook Subscription bought through the Mac App Store:

1. Confirm that you have a SketchBook Subscription. Apple will not allow you to re-buy SketchBook subscription if you have already bought it. (https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204939)

2. Delete SketchBook from here:
If you bought the AppStore version = Applications > SketchBook
If you bought from www.sketchbook.com/thankyou = Applications > Autodesk > SketchBook

3. Go to the Applications > App Store and download SketchBook, it will require authentication from the iTunes. i.e. Enter your iTunes password.

4. Run the Application (that you just downloaded). Upon first launch, you will need to enter your iTunes password.

5. If there is an error, exit out of SketchBook and re-launch it. Go to the My Account menu, choose the Restore option.

6. If Restore hangs, Force Quit , reboot Mac and repeat steps 2-5 again.

Used to be fine but then the bugs started popping up

Honestly, the product itself is fine. It’s not the best but it fulfills its function. The brushes are fine and it’s nice being able to customise everything. The programme has some nice tricks up its sleeve but it’s nothing mind-blowing. However, all of this is pointless because it can’t save your work properly. Each update just seems to make it worse. Don’t waste your money.
