Pingit is a super speedy and secure way to send and receive money.

You can pay by phone using the app and you don’t need to bank with us to use it. It’s also free for personal use, whether you’re making or receiving mobile payments. To use this money transfer app, you just need to be over 16, have a current account with any UK bank and a mobile phone that’s registered in the UK, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man.

How does it work?

The Pingit payment app links your phone number to your bank account, making it quick and easy to pay by mobile. It’s as simple as texting – just find a contact in your address book, enter the amount and send money to them straightaway. You can also use it to make in-store payments and request money from friends – it acts as a bill-splitting app, making settling group payments simple.

If you’ve got a Barclays Business current account and a UK mobile number, you can use Pingit to make and receive instant payments – and you can send and manage your invoices for free

When you split a bill and request money from friends, you can now enter how much you owe too. You can also send an emoji when you pay someone

And remember, you don’t need to bank with Barclays to use Pingit.

Requires developer work

The app worked very well in the past and I had no issues. I have not used it for a while 12+months and when opened it today was told I had no connection to to check my connection and signal strength.
I checked mobile data was on for the app, and Wi-Fi was also on. I turned off Wi-Fi as well as trying other apps to connect to the internet without problem. (The app seemed to set up without issue from my banking app and change phones without problem).
It also lists in my contacts the person I am sending to has a Pingit account (I assume by the “P” next to her name.) Yet now tells me she doesn’t have an account when click her name. (I have sent payments to her previously via pingit).
I never had any issues when using it in he past, yet I have given the current version up as a bad job, although I am sure it will be easily fixed.

Hi there, thanks for review. It's a bit strange that you aren't able to connect when you can do so with other apps, I want to get this sorted for you. Could you go into your settings and find the app in your list and afterwards when you select the app, ensure mobile data is allowed whilst using the app please? In regards to your friend, have you confirmed with her if she still have a Pingit account open? The reason I ask is because if her Pingit account has been closed you wouldn't be able to send her anymore payments I'm afraid. -Dylan


Balances don’t match

The available balance on my linked Barclays account doesn’t match the available balance on my pingit account. Very frustrating as have to transfer extra funds in to temporarily boost my linked account to increase the pingit balance before transferring it out again. Why can I spend, withdraw and do anything I like with the funds on my account except pay them away using pingit?

As for the developer response that’s rubbish as they always matched before and they do again now. Never ever have I transferred a penny in to my pingit account as that always mirrors the balance in my Barclays current account. Turns out the difference between the two was because of a cheque. It cleared in my current account within a day (speedy cheque clearing I guess) but for some reason this wasn’t recognised by pingit until a week later.

Misleading and confusing.

After signing up after being told that it would also work for non-Barclays customers, a purchase between a friend and I turned out not to go into my bank account but only into my “Pingit wallet” -an aspect which was not clear from the outset. I then called the customer service team and after over 20 minutes on the phone the colleague gave up helping and told me to visit my local Barclay branch to complete the purchase, which would have been highly inconvenient. Ultimately, this was not necessary as I only needed to resend the payment from my Pingit wallet back to my friend but this was only discovered after a long amount of time without any assistance from the customer service team.
I - and others would find it really useful if the manner in which the Pingit wallet works for nonbarclays customers would be outlined clearly before completing a transaction.
