A giant colony of super-sized bee sculptures is winging its way to Manchester this summer for one of the biggest public art exhibitions the city has ever seen. Over 100 individually-designed super-sized Bees are waiting to be discovered, so follow the trail around Manchester and see how many you can find. Each Bee has been specially designed by a regional or national artist and celebrates the unique buzz of the city. You can also discover over 130 equally artistic little Bees created by around 30,000 children, young people and adult creative groups as part of the Bee in the City Learning Programme. At the end of the trail, the large Bees will be auctioned to raise money for The Lord Mayor of Manchester's We Love MCR Charity (registered charity number 1066972) which works to improve the lives and life chances of Manchester people.
Use the app to ‘Bee an adventurer’ and ‘collect’ all the Bee sculptures. Keep track of your travels with our app pedometer, vote for your favourite Bee and send us a Bee selfie.

OK, could bee better
Was really looking forward to using this app but it has a few flaws. I have managed to unlock bees that I haven't even visited yet just by clicking on them to have a look. Some of the codes came up with error so I have had to write down codes and add them later. This has a secondary problem as it unlocks some rewards that have to be used on the day it's unlocked. Also some of the rewards are a bit naff. Gone back to the paper map and adding to the app once home. Such a shame as the app has great potential.
Could be better
It was great to see so many people around Manchester searching for bees. Also great to see how much time and effort has gone into putting whole event together. It’s a shame the app developers couldn’t put in the same level of dedication. For a free app it would be just about OK but at £1.99 I expect better.
Icons should change colour when you unlock them.(Later edit - they do now!!)
Map should centre on your location and remember the zoom level.
Needs a back button in order to return to the last screen.
I went on the Bee trail with my 7 year old granddaughter and after collecting only a few bees it stopped working and said there was a network error. My connection was fine and it was only this app. Again we had to note down the codes and add later which was a shame. The map was frustrating as when I enlarged it to find our position and look for the next Bee it immediately reverted back. Dreadful. Fortunately I had the paper map which we used instead. A waste of money and rubbish rewards. Don’t charge money for something that doesn’t work 😖
