Butterfly Count!

I have always loved watching butterflies whether in the garden or out and about! It’s a fantastic and calming thing to do through the spring and summer months.
The Big Butterfly Count is a wonderful opportunity to observe and be part of a very important monitoring and preservation of our environment. The life cycle of our butterflies are crucial in maintaining a healthy countryside and wildlife. If you haven’t already done the Butterfly Count, please do it now, if you truly care about our precious environment and wildlife. 🦋🦋🦋🦋

Very interesting, a little worrying

In my seventies and mostly at home these days, so I had noted a lack of variety of butterflies than in past years.
But the 15 mins recording has also highlighted fewer numbers too.
I live in a ‘wildish’ garden with lots of buddleia, hebes and even ‘weeds’ and nettles, and a woodland behind - used to be ideal for butterflies.
I had noticed the lessening of numbers over the years, but the count shows some varieties no longer visiting. I haven’t seen a blue, at all.

Good little app!

I’ve put the details of The Big Butterfly Count on the family WhatsApp group as I thought it’d be something nice for the children to get involved in. Turns out I am enjoying it more than everyone. I’m in the garden every night after work looking for butterflies. Only thing is I wish I could upload my photos.. and on the first night, I spotted a butterfly which wasn’t on the chart so I was gutted. Other than that - love it!
