BJ Bridge Beginner Acol 4+

Excellent practice tool

I haven’t played Bridge for quite a while so am quite rusty. This App is fantastic for refreshing the memory regarding bidding and actual moves pending taking Bridge up again with real partners. The hints are really useful if you want to use them and it’s especially great to be able to rebid or replay the same hands and achieve different scores, and also to compare your scores with duplicate scores. I can’t praise it enough. I’m addicted to it already!

Puzzling App

I was enjoying using the free version and thought I might upgrade to the Pro version. This was because I wanted to use a weak two opening bid. The system recognised my attempt to bid a weak two as a strong two. There is a menu to change the bidding assumptions but it is only available on the Pro version. (I do not know if the pro version actually offers weak twos - it is impossible to tell from the free version)

I could see no way of upgrading. There was no menu I could find that would allow it. I pressed ‘help’ but that required an internet connection. When I tried to connect to the internet the sub menu only offered for me to join a game as either host or partner. There was no option to access help or, as I mention above, to upgrade.

I am very puzzled.

Thanks for your interest and glad you're enjoying the BJ Bridge Beginner Acol app. If you search for "BJ Bridge" on the App Store you'll find 4 app versions. 3 are free. BJ Bridge Pro is the 4th. it's a separate app rather than an upgrade. You can see the conventions it offers, including weak twos on the BriJ website at http://bjbridge.org/conventions/default.php. Great App - within its limits

This is a great App for learning the basics and the ability to rebid and replay hands is a fantastic learning tool. It’s very straight forward to use and understand and unlike many free Apps the adverts aren’t too off putting and are often even interesting! However it’s important to keep in mind that it is an App for beginners and sometimes the algorithms/coding lead to some very strange play, eg second player playing low when it would just result in losing more tricks or the recommended lead would have a similar effect. I can’t compare it to the “Pro” version as I haven’t tried it.
