Editors' Notes

A car service that’s conscious of the environment, your finances and safety. BlaBlaCar aims to hook users up with cars headed in the same direction, thus cutting down on fuel, emissions and travel costs. The app also prides itself on its safe community (we enjoyed the messaging facility). It’s a two-way street, with users able to check out available rides (simply search for someone travelling to your destination) or offer free lifts themselves. Enjoyably, you can be selective: if you don’t want animals, smoking, food or music in your car while you drive, simply edit your preferences accordingly.

Poor app and the service is nose-diving

Mahouligan

The app is clonky and ill-conceived with lots of annoying little things in the experience:
Example:
You can only create alerts to find what you want if there are no results returned from your search. So, if those results are unsuitable (which they often are) , no way to create an alert.
Example:
Messages blocked for entering a French 5 figure postcode ( thought it was a telephone )
No iPad app ( except the phone app, run on iPad).
Moreover, as others have pointed out, the monetisation of the service seems to have killed it in the uk. I offered several mainstream journeys (like STN to Bristol) over a week with a weeks notice and not only no takers : nobody even searched for them. I can never find a lift in the uk any more, I always try.
Subjectively, French users report that many journeys are being offered to be just cents better than the next cheapest buses and trains. There is an increase in people doing popular routes as a job / business and generally just a less good feeling.
Greed, money and capitalism screw the world up but before they finish that job, they screw BlaBlaCar.

Developer Response

Thank you for leaving the rating. We're sorry to hear that you feel this way. We've got lots of improvements coming to the app this year that will make it easier to use the app and fill your empty seats. They don’t give all the money you’re owed

Bbafjsbeicn

If you have a UK account but do a cross border ride such as Paris to London, blablacar don’t give you the money you’re owed, aka £32 per seat. Instead they transfer you the amount paid in euros like 58 euros for instance, at some other exchange rate. In the past few months they’ve basically stolen about £50 off me.
I’ve brought this up with them but their customer service is completely useless (in that matter or any other) as they basically spit out some pre-chewed corporate jargon to shut you down. I’ve also brought this up with the UK ombudsman but since it’s a French company there’s nothing you can do about it. They’re dicks.
