Used to be good

This app was perfect for navigation until recently. Why make it necessary to log in? 3 times now it has logged me out automatically and then not allowed me to log back in therefore unable to use app. Last time this happened I was in a situation where it was essential I could use it. Thankfully had access to another navigation system. Can not rely on this anymore. What a waste of subscription fee. Developer has since been in touch to say the problem has been resolved however it seems it is still necessary to log in which is not possible when you are out of signal.

Developer Response ,

Dear Customer- Logging in requires an Internet connection, you can find more info about online and offline app features here: https://tinyurl.com/2p8vuchz
A Navionics account (email) is necessary to display charts offline and it will help you easily restore your purchases and favorite data also on other compatible mobile devices.

Left handed - Marker issue

I have been using the App for 3 years now and I love it. I am happy with how I can plan routes, understand weather and tides and I have a love and hate relationship with the Market button, which I am writing in hope to inspire the developers. On moving about my screen with my left hand, I end up touching the marker bottom, which creates a marker at my current location. On planning and researching passages, this takes me across the maps, loses me locations etc. It is a pain. Even worse, I spend hours deleting my unwanted markers. In contrast, I love the ability to create markers. I set several, so I can easily find where I am heading, or exit emergency strategy etc. Right now I am planning a big passage, and I have created several markers, and my routes are set to my markers. It is a very powerful tool, if only my left hand wouldn't set it going of

Developer Response ,

Dear Customer, thank you for your 4 stars and for your comment about the Marker on the Fly in our App. Your suggestion has already been forwarded to our developers for consideration for future App enhancements. We cannot guarantee a precise date when this may be implemented. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and check our website for news about new product releases. Have a lovely day.

Looks like it needs improving

Note to developers:

I’ve been using this app for over a decade, have always been very satisfied, and have recommended it to several other yachtsmen. However, it looks like recent changes have ruined it.

I’m well overdue an upgrade but having read the recent reviews I won’t be parting with my money (golly, quite a lot now) until I start seeing some more positive reviews or a notification that the login issues are resolved.

I recognise your decision to move to a mandatory annual subscription, but at the prices you have set you must realise this will deter a large number of users, potentially resulting in less overall revenue.

But most importantly, if this subscription model means that users regularly need to log in, requiring an internet connection, then you have completely misunderstood the primary use case. To spell it out, the app is mostly used at sea or in coastal areas where there is often minimal or zero mobile data coverage and certainly no wifi. Although it should never be used as the primary navigation system, it must still be reliable otherwise it becomes worthless.

As I say, I won’t be upgrading to the latest version until this is fixed, nor recommending the app to other yachtsmen. Please consider this feedback carefully and do what you can to restore the app to its former glory.

Developer Response ,

We are sorry to hear of your experience. We do understand that some users will not have internet or Wi-Fi out on the water. Which is why the Navionics Boating app does not require a log in if you do not log out of the application. In some instances, an automatic update to the app version may require a log in. To avoid this, customers can remove the automatic updates and select to be notified only when a new app version has been released through the device’s App Store app. Use the Submit Feedback feature or email help@navionics.com with Apple Review and “Gav2000” in the subject, include the email used to log into the mobile app is sent from a different email address, and an agent will gladly assist you.
