What's New in Version 3.12.0

Breaking News has shut down operations as of December 31, 2016.

Thank you so much for using this service — knowing that we had passionate, engaged people relying on Breaking News made our hard work especially meaningful. Many of the features we implemented came directly from your feedback. Thank you.

In our six-year run we had the honor of being at the forefront of news, technology and public safety, always focused on verifiable news delivered as fast as humanly possible. Working together, we were building the news service that we, ourselves, always wanted — and so shutting it down means that we're looking to where we're going to get our news, too.

There will never be a perfect news product, but we hope the future will be full of attempts to make one. We'd love to see more startups, more experimentation, more investment, more long-shots into funding models, more doubling-down into technologies that will benefit journalists, users and the world.

We've lit up your screen, buzzed your pocket and reached out across the room with our three-note alert sound. We've told you about things you cared about (and some you didn't), and helped you feel more in touch with the world. We helped you find out first, giving you an edge and even helping keep you safe. We loved doing it. We're going to miss it. Thank you for being on the other end of that glowing screen.

Tragic demise of a vital app

So angry at the actions of NBC to have taken over this organisation, only to close it shortly after - clearly because it put the journalistic efforts of the rest of NBC News to shame.

To lose such a vital application is a travesty. At a time when reliability of news sources is itself a news item, we can ill afford such an important service.

I salute those behind Breaking News - generally extremely reliable and very quick notification of news events, which in some cases might have been life saving. I relied upon this application in increasingly uncertain times whenever I travelled to unfamiliar locations.

This will be sadly missed, although it has demonstrated what can be achieved when dedicated people make an effort, and with the greatest of respects, I hope it won't be too long before someone is smart enough to establish a similar service of such high quality.

Many thanks to the immediate team behind Breaking News - I salute you and wish you all the best for the future.

To NBC, I sincerely hope those responsible for the decision to close this service soon lose the ability to inflict their stupidity any further. Shame on you.

Going to be missed from 1st app page

The best news app I had!! In fact if more people had known about it. It would have been the best news app they had as well.

World news / local news basically NEWS not gossip! The fastest delivery via push notifications and the ability to get notifications on trigger words.

Simply gutted I just hope the team go to kickstarter I would back them. Heck they can do better than NBC.

Best app in the world - now discontinued :(

In these times of terror attacks. Fast breaking news alerts are very important. This app is now discontinued thanks to NBC. A very sad start to 2017.
