Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
Caffeine is a tiny program that puts an icon in the right side of your menu bar. Click it to prevent your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers. Click it again to go back. Right-click (or ⌘-click) the icon to show the menu.
Important: Caffeine lives in the MENU BAR, and this is where its state is indicated. App Store puts the Caffeine icon in the dock, but you can just remove it if you want to.
A Great App
This app is absolutely brilliant and is great for stopping your Mac falling asleep or dimming the screen. Instead of a big fat icon in your dock it makes a discreet icon in the bar at the top. Whenever you need to change something, a simple right click of the icon brings up all the services you need including preferences and quit. Another small but noteworthy feature is that if you are typing something in Pages or making a presentation in Keynote you don't have to click back into those programs after activating it. You might be thinking, "What's the point of downloading this if I can go into system preferences?" and my response is that system preferences takes more than 1 click to do this whereas Caffeine is always ready for just that; one click.
The reson I have not given it the full 5 stars is because the icon style doesn't quite fit in with those of my others; spotlight, clock, volume, Airport, Battery, Bluetooth, Time Machine and iChat are all very pristine, neat and smart icons but then when you put a silver and white coffee mug with a brown liquid in, this kind of ruins the look of the menu bar. Hence I would really like to see customisation or more icons to be able to set.
Overall this app is really helpful, simple to use and a great one-click service.
A very useful little program!
Ok, how on earth did I survive without this little program? It's a great one to have up your sleeve. not always needed, but very useful for the odd times you need to keep your screen awake to save hassle/time. especially useful when i'm writing assignments for my course. honestly i don't know what i did before i had this! it is a very good program...very much incognito where it sits in your menu bar..the graphics are good too. i like the fact that when it's off the coffee cup is 'empty' and then when you turn it on the coffee cup is suddenly 'full of coffee' and then you know it's been activated.
if you get nothing else from the macbook App store, then do get this. I practically 100 percent guarntee you will have a good experience with it...and what do you have to lose? the program is a free download and it installs flawlessly into your dock where it's easyily accessible whenever you require it.
the dev's did a good job with this one.
This is one of the applications that should come by default with OS X. The application is dead simple to use and is very convenient for laptop usage. There are times when you don't want to fiddle with power saving settings and just want the screen to stay lit. Well this is exactly what Caffeine does with 1 click. When you're done, you can turn it off and the screen power savings are left to OS X to handle. Keep in mind that keeping the screen at full brightness all the time uses up your battery considerably faster. It's not a problem with Caffeine just the way the world works. As far as Caffeine is concerned, is have an extremely small memory footprint, virtually no CPU usage, and for the 3 years that I have used it, it has never crashed.
