Description

Other calorie counting apps boast 5 MILLION+ FOODS, but **news flash** nobody actually eats 5 million foods! In reality, people eat the same things on a regular basis, so instead of showing you a long list of irrelevant foods, we think it’s much more useful to show you PHOTOS of the most common foods people eat.

The Carbs & Cals app contains 3,500+ food photos to help you get your portion size just right.

PERFECT for:
• Type 1 diabetes (carb counting)
• Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes
• Weight loss (calorie/fat counting)
• Anyone on the 5:2 or 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet
• Fitness training (boosting carbs or protein)
• Healthy eating (increasing fibre or fruit & veg)

The bestselling and award-winning Carbs & Cals products help thousands of people control their diabetes and weight every year.

Best of many options

Apps like this have become commonplace and there are hundreds of websites offering similar data. Carbs and Cals is by far the best of them, offering generic portion photography which is brilliant. We use it for carb counting and probably couldn’t live without it. That isn’t to say it’s faultless.

Other foot tracking apps contain far more branded food alongside barcode scanning (check out Fitbit!) C+C has restaurant food but no photos which in itself is ok, it needs more to make it truly useful as otherwise you can’t compare the meals. Eg prezzo pizza - they don’t offer carbs on their website so I went to compare it zizzi which must be similar but there are no pictures. Don’t get me wrong, if we were in zizzi I would be singing it’s praises for having their menu.

Carbs and cals could almost do with a second app or area just for collating branded food and restaurants.

Life saver!

As a diabetic who’s is injection dependent, I started carb counting to help control of insulin and blood levels (with the carb blood machine) my diabetic nurses advised I download this.

It’s helped control my blood so much! It doesn’t have all the foods but it’s also a easy guide. You can add your own food in by inputting the guide on the back of the food packet. And create meals so it’s all there ready. And when you’re eating out it has most of the fast food places and info that you wouldn’t know.

I highly recommend this for diabetics that are carb counting. You input what you ate/drank then it tells you the carbs, it out it into your blood machine, makes correction doses due to your blood level and it tells you how much insulin to have!

Some good aspects but very poor customer service

I bought this app following a recommendation from the Low Carb Program. Good selection of photos of portion sizes and macro values but I have a constant problem which despite several emails to customer services they have not bothered to reply to. The main one, the one that makes it frankly unusable for logging foods is that it randomly reverts to defaults for macros and calorie goals. Sometimes it stays for a couple of days then boom, gone . Other times I readjust to my own personal targets for the nth time to then enter a food and it defaults again. Also, I am unable to change the body measurements from metric to imperial which the video shows you to do. For a paid app it is quite frankly not acceptable but I’ve given up on it and accepted I’ve wasted my money.
