ABOUT CARDIIO
Blood absorbs light. Every time your heart beats, the blood flow to your finger increases, causing more light to be absorbed. In between beats, less light is absorbed. By using your smartphone camera to capture tiny changes in reflected light from your finger, Cardiio can calculate your heart rate.

**IMPORTANT TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
• ALWAYS hold your phone steady, keep still, and don’t talk during a measurement.
• Make sure your fingers are not cold.
• Cover the entire back camera lightly with your finger; Don't press too hard to avoid restricting blood flow to your finger.

Excellent

Update 2020.
I’ve been using this app for several years now, it’s excellent.

I have paid for the extra features if not only because I use the app a lot, so I should contribute a little.

<Original review below>

I've been using this almost daily for nearly four months.

Accurate, easy to use and not cluttered with adverts like the first app I tried.

Occasionally difficult to get a reliable signal but that isn't the app's fault, it's more to do with cold fingers or external movement - it couldn't cope with being used on a moving train! Try the facial measurement in these conditions: slightly less accurate but will have a brave attempt.

Not paid for the extra features yet but may well do. It's a useful and stable app, thank you!

Works but not very useful

Cardiio works well enough to measure pulse indoors. Outdoors, I have not yet managed to get it to take a reading. This is probably because the camera flash is overpowered by the daylight. You cannot get round this by covering the lens more tightly as Cardiio then tells you to cover more softly, whereupon it fails because of the ambient light.

A pulse oximeter has the same problem outdoors. Any device with a tiny flash will have a struggle against daylight.

Honestly though, it is just as easy to start the iphone timer, put your fingers on your wrist and count your pulse for 30 seconds.

Gets heart rate but doesn’t let me add it!

So after using this app for a few weeks I’ve found almost every time I use it that it will get my heart rate fine but then tell me that it couldn’t get an accurate enough reading - despite seeing a steady beat and a number that was correct. I had to read my heart rate 4 times today before it eventually got it, by which point it had decreased from 120 BPM to 85 BPM after a 10 minutes run, giving me data that isn’t as good for what I wanted.

Please add a feature that lets me add my pulse even if the app doesn’t think it was good enough - I want to track it over time and having it look falsely low isn’t helping.
