Ratings and Reviews
Fun game, however out of place
I'm a fan of the Cato & Macro books, currently up to date on all of them. When I finished Blood Brothers I find to my surprise an advert for the app at the end of the book.
Straight away, I will say that I will be critical of the app. It's a great game in itself, but I find it more relatable to the horrible history than the Cato & Macro series (Ignoring the direct quotes and references).
The game is fun, a wave defence game. Having to place troops in key positions and using officer abilities to turn the tide, it also has a good amount of challenge. The game does have gems you can purchase, but you can still enjoy the game without them.
This game however is more targeted at introducing new people to the books, quoting quite heavily from the books in game. It doesn't really offer anything new to the people (like myself) whom are up to date.
So I would knock it down two stars, due to the cartoony portrayal (The books can be quite dark) and lack of incentives or rewards for people whom have already read them (current reward seems to be a sentence from the author and a few paragraphs from the relevant book). Three stars for being simple, fun in terms of gameplay and flaming pigs (nostalgia of Rome Total War).
I definitely recommend this game!
It's not great.
I've got all the books by Simon Scarrow, and really enjoy the adventures of Cato.
This game annoyed me from the start, it jumped straight into the game without no welcome or options screen. I know maybe a small thing, but it be great to see a mini cgi of Cato and Macro at the beginning. The game itself is not fantastic and have a iPhone 6. I would have given it maybe a 4 🌟 rating, if the game dragged you in more to play. And I should know I've played Skyrim for 200hrs +.
For the glory of Rome!
Nigh on perfect gaming app. Gather resources, build up and improve your Roman fort and recruit your soldiers. Then the best bit if all- lead them into battle behind two of Rome's toughest soldiers. Watch blood flow and heads fly as Cato and Macro dish it out gladiator man style!
