Description

This is the latest edition of the Food Scanner app and is an opportunity for you to try out our new features within the application whilst we still build to improve the functionality over the following months.

Ever wondered how much sugar is in your fave cola or salt is in your sauce? Find out with the Food Scanner app!
Food Scanner is here to help you and your family make healthier food and drink choices.

It's time to get scanning! Just find a food or drink barcode to quickly see what's inside. You might be surprised by what you find!
Search 'Change4Life' to discover a whole range of ideas to help keep your family healthy and happy.

We are using Augmented Reality within the app that brings to life what’s inside your food and drink right in front of your eyes! There are certain limitations depending on what device you have and if your device supports ARCore. If it doesn’t not to worry we will show you a 3D scenario instead so you won’t miss out on all the fun.
The app is based on the most widespread data available to us. We're continuously working to improve it and we're adding more and more products all the time.
The nutrient data in this app is supplied by Brand Bank and Food Switch.
The number of sugar cubes, sat fat and salt sachets shown in app are based on grams per pack/100g/ml/portion when that information is available.

The weight of one sugar cube is equal to 4 grams
The weight on one sat fat lump is equal to 1 gram
The weight of one salt sachet is equal to 0.5 grams

Very informative and useful

Yeah, really useful. I lack imagination at the supermarket so it’s great to go through my fridge and get new healthier ideas. Lots of info and the chance to add missing products. The serious side of this app is very very good.

I think the AR side could have been better. Seeing animated food monsters running round my plate of food is possibly funny the first time but... surely the shock factor would have been being able to see my bowl of food with sugar-lumps or blobs of fat next to it so I could screen-grab and share on social media. That would make better sense for the NHS app’s credibility too.

I’ll keep this app on my phone for shopping. Really good.

Great concept though missing much data

At first I thought this is a great additional free app to my LifeSum subscription! So thanks NHS for the idea, however I believe you missed a trick, the first biggest thing is this app should have been programmed into the NHS weight loss app so that you can scan and add your food to your diary and at the same time then you could be offered the healthy options for future use and swops.
The second biggest failure is that when I started using it, every single LIDLS item was not in the database and I was asked to add all the details for every item to the database on behalf of the NHS? Of course I don’t have the time to do this especially when if I open my LifeSum app all the data is with in it.
Perhaps it is something I will come back to in the future, if you could pay admin to add the many basic LIDLS items to the app, until then Sadly it will be going on the back burner meaning the last page of apps! Many thanks

Very Fun but some things to make better

This app is really good and is also fun to use, but somethings could be improved. I have been scanning some things in my cupboard, like strawberry yo,yo bears, so when I scanned it I realised that the sugar is really high, anyway, I scrolled down to the swaps part, and there were a bunch of swaps but they were pretty much all chewing gum. It would be more helpful if it was stuff more related to the item like kids snacks because the kids can’t take gum as their school snack. Also one more thing it doesn’t make it clear that when u scan a barcode and it turns out they don’t have that item it says “add the item” so you do all the things like image of the packaging when you are finished it doesn’t make it clear that the app designers will add it or anything.
Otherwise it has been quite helpful so it’s great! Thnx
