not bad easy play
quite easy to use. writing / instructions are a bit small. build, wait, continue. Easy to pass time
Simple Sim game that you soon grow tired of
It’s a bit of harmless fun, good for a few days until you get fed up with it not going anywhere and just becomes repetitive. Still, for a free game, it’s not too bad. (Mind you, they really have worked hard to try to get you to buy stuff, and even a few small purchases do add up, of course, and suddenly it’s no longer a ‘free’ game.)
The interface is a bit annoying in some ways, eg. it can be difficult to work with items near the edge of a map, when there are icons covering them. And the store where you buy the properties etc. could be easier to navigate and search, eg. it could just show you things that you can afford and place on the active map, instead of showing everything. Another thing that irritates me is, in order to expand your map to get access to a new facility, you need to purchase ‘surrounding land’, but you don’t know which parcel that means - so you can easily buy a piece of land, only to find out that it wasn’t the one you needed. And some features are just silly, like the fact that each property needs access to a road, but the road doesn’t need to be connected to the road network, all you need is to place a single road tile next to each property.
Annoying
Like most sim games, City Island 3 is quite addictive. You easily get wrapped up in the routine of making money and spending money. The problem is, the growth really isn’t quick enough. It takes far too long to take the game anywhere. The prices for items change from cash to gold so that you’re either forced to pay, or you simply have to wait hours and hours until you have enough money to unlock pieces of land bit by bit, until hopefully you get to another island where some of the buildings you’ve unlocked are finally relevant. Disappointing, because it has the potential to be a good game. I suppose I shouldn’t complain because it is free, but I’d rather pay for something and not have the in-app purchase type of gaming that has ruined every game since that period began.
