Reliable weather forecasts for astronomers with an emphasis on cloud cover.
• Seven day hourly forecasts, updated hourly.
• Low, medium, high and total cloud cover.
• Moon rise/set times and phase.
• Sun rise/set and transit.
• Civil/nautical/astronomical darkness.
• ISS pass-over information.
• Automatically provides a forecast for your current location.
• Save favourite locations for easy access.
• Daytime forecasts for solar observers/imagers.
Updated hourly. Frequent hourly updates are important because often the clear spell between showers provides excellent seeing and 30-minutes under a clear sky with a grab-&-go telescopes is pure gold!
Did you notice the ISS pass-over information? The times are precisely calculated for your location and displayed alongside the cloud forecasts so it has never been easier to observe. It is our favourite feature :-)
Also includes regular weather data (wind, rain, frost, temperature, dew point, etc) so perfect for those wanting a detailed weather forecast, without cutesy graphics.
We have had a lot of fun building and testing Clear Outside and are keen to to develop it further so if you find it useful or have suggestions, please let us know.
Excellent Astronomy Tool
I have tried out a lot of apps in the past that are supposed to show the observing condition for astronomy. None were as good as the Clear Outside website, and now it's available as an app.
It's a great tool and shows you all the information you need to know if you stand any chance of some astronomy (essential in the UK!) even tells you the weather!
Highly recommended for all astronomers everywhere.
There's always that one thing…
… its faultless, everything you need to know on one screen. Simple good/bad readings with tonnes of info. BUT it's really annoying having to scroll back to the top every time you want to look what time that row is in.
If the time panes froze it would be 5 stars :D
This has now been added :)
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 stars as promised
Excellent tool. Also works on iPad!
Very good indeed. Gives me all the forecast information I need for night or day work.
Also works on iPad, which is pretty impressive for something marked "iPhone only"! It is perfectly legible, and even works in landscape.
Have so far been unable to spot ISS due to heavy rain, but the indicator is handy!
