London underground map redesigned for easier viewing by people with all forms of colourblindness, and other vision impairments such as cataracts, loss of contrast sensitivity and myopia. If you have difficulty using the London tube map, either in print or in other apps, this could be the answer.
-Official licensed London tube map, modified with permission from TFL
-Designed for and tested with people with a range of vision impairments
-Combination of colour and pattern for colourblindness
-Increased contrast and reduced glare for other vision impairments
-Large detailed maps that allow a high level of zoom
-Simple easy to use interface with no fiddly gestures
-Choice of text size
This app has been designed for people with mild-moderate vision impairment, key features being alternative colour schemes, a high level of zoom, and a large font option.
Considerations have also been made for motor impairments, with large well spaced buttons, and the option to use zoom buttons instead of pinch/zoom.
The interface is simple, settings have visual previews, copy is clearly styled and as jargon-free as possible, and the choice of interface colours can be beneficial for irlen-related dyslexia.
Sound is not used to communicate any information, meaning no barriers are present for people with impaired hearing.
The app was designed for TFL’s ‘accessible transport app’ contest, and has been designed in accordance with the accessibility guidelines of the contest, produced by OneVoice ICT.
-- Accessibility testing --
Testing has been carried out with people with a range of vision impairments, including colourblindness and cataracts.
-- Known accessibility issues --
This app is not currently screenreader accessible. This is due to the code framework it is built upon (Corona) not supporting screenreader accessibility. Although the app is specifically for people with a moderate degree of vision, we are aware that some people with enough vision to find the app useful still do use screenreaders, so we would like to support them.
What's New in Version 1.1
+ Slightly speedier loading times
+ Minor bug fixes
+ Sprinkled a little magic fairy dust
Finally the tube map makes sence!
I have quite severe colour defective vision. This app finally allows me to read the London tube map quickly and easily.
It does crash when changing maps, and a pinch zoom function would make it more ios intuitive. Nobodies perfect, I love it none the less.
Perfect if you struggle with colours like I do! So easy to use and several options to choose from.
Pinch zoom would be useful. And having the key as a drop down rather than in the corner of the map so you don't have to move it around every time.
Overall very useful and I'd definitely recommend to anyone who struggle with the current tube map
Not just for the visually impaired
This is a fine app and a great way of having the Tube map easily to hand at all times, regardless of whether you have any visual impairment. Easy-peasy to use. Everybody should have it
