# How it works
Cosm combines concepts from cognitive psychology and a style of 'minimalist music' pioneered by composers such as Steve Reich & Brian Eno. You simply tap or swipe to create melodies that combine to create an ever evolving soundtrack to immerse your mind.
Inspired by organic tones such as gongs and the sounds of the natural world, the sonic palette has been carefully crafted to be atmospheric and calming. Each layer of sound evolves over time creating a non-linear piece of music that is both relaxing and captivating.
Once you’ve created your soundscape, save it to your journal along with notes for future listening and self reflection.
Cosm was created as part of a collaboration between brothers Jonah Fox (Electroacoustic Composer), Alex Fox (Technologist/Producer) with guidance from Dr Chris Howard (Computational Psychology MIT).
• Save and load sessions to your journal
• Sleep and meditation timer
• Background mode (no screen time)
• Change between scales and pitches
• Inter App Audio (IAA) support [note: Cosm must be opened manually]

A fantastic, multi-sensory way to create calm and focus
This is just what I’ve been looking for - an app that I can use to create calm and focus on breathing, while doing something therapeutic. Making sounds and immersing yourself in them is a calming process, and combining this with elements of mindfulness practice is a good way to use this app.
I also work in schools and find children respond very well to this app.
Bloom 10 Worlds is good too, but this is a beautiful app with plenty of small tweaks you can give you your soundscapes including (and this is where the latest iteration of Bloom doesn’t measure up) changing the scale and key of the piece. It’s well constructed, beautiful to look at and I’m looking forward to using this at my office desk to slow things down and give me some calm.
Deeper than it looks
At first I thought this would be another musical toy that lacked depth but I was wrong. The sound produced from this app is very complex and calming and I was surprised at how much variety there is.
It’s great for ambient music when I'm working, and creating the sound scapes really relax me.
Look forward to seeing how it evolves.
