Ok - when it works

When the app works it’s great, but it has a habit of losing connection to one or all of my units. Sometimes I can fiddle about and get them back, but usually I end up deleting and reinstalling the app.
Also, the ‘out of Home’ feature is very flaky. I can’t connect to one of my units if I log into out of home and If I do login in to this feature I find it impossible to log out of it again. When I try to I get no units found on the screen, so I tap log out again and there are no units found......etc. It’s impossible to get out of this loop without deleting and reinstalling the app.
What’s annoying about this is that I used to be able to use IFTTT to switch units off of I leave home and forget to, but this now only works on 1 unit

For unreliable connections....disable “turn off notifications”

I’m not sure if this is definitely the answer, but I also found this app to be very unreliable, very often it would fail to find the adapter so I couldn’t connect to the unit, but strangely I could connect to it via “out of home”.....it made no sense!!! But then I noticed a pattern......it was always in the evening just before going to bed that the adapter connection would fail, in the morning I’d pick up my phone and notice the connection worked. Therefore with a bit of amateur Sherlock Holmes deduction I turned off “do not disturb” on my phone and voila......back came the connection. So if you are frustrated that sometimes the app works and sometimes it can’t find the unit, then make sure your phone isn’t set to “do not disturb”, it might work....

I can only assume this is a bug.

The next thing to work out is why the IFTTT automations randomly fail. I can only assume this is done via cloud based APIs and not via your device and therefore are not due to the same issue, some IFTTT logs would help with that...

Two months since AC installed and this app was installed.

Pros:

• Quite responsive.
• Simple, clean UI.
• Works almost all of the time. Only time I had a problem I had to power cycle the AC. Thankfully only happened once so far.

Cons:
• App limited to UK AppStore (problem for me since most of family is on US one).
• No energy usage information.
• Only works when on same wireless network as the AC. Forced to use their other app for controlling the AC on the go.
• Auto mode to certain temperature doesn’t work properly/accurately but that may be an issue with the AC and not this remote app.

I must point out that Daikin’s other app, “Residential Controller” works from anywhere (home, work, etc) but it is cloud-based, which means when/if Daikin’s servers are down, so is the remote app. It is also infuriatingly unresponsive – tap a button and watch it take effect on the AC from seconds to a minute later. Terrible.

They recently also made available updates to that app with a rather scary update note, that if you update the firmware of your AC, you can no longer use this app! That is insane. AC units must ALWAYS have an app that allows you to connect and control directly instead of relying on the manufacturer’s cloud service, which may be decommissioned at some point leaving you remote-less.

Extremely annoyed about this. Have to make sure no-one in the house updates the firmware and if they do and I lose this app, I’m prepared to pursue a case against Daikin.
