David Bowie 'Golden Years' single audio track remix application
Fans can create & share their remixes, using eight stems (bounced down from the original 16 tracks), featuring Bowieís lead vocal, 12-string guitar, bass, drums, guitar, harmonium, percussion (including blocks, congas, claps) and backing vocals. Additionally, they can SHAKE the player, which allows for random track selection and "shuffles" track mixes. History is made here for you to discover, remix, and share with friends. The stems for this App were specifically created by 'Golden Years' and Station To Station's original producer Harry Maslin.

About GOLDEN YEARS
'Golden Years' was the first single released from the album Station To Station - released in edited form in November 1975 (RCA 2640), appearing the following year in full-length on the album. This single version has been subsequently released on various Bowie compilations including the Best Of Bowie LP, The Best Of David Bowie 1974/1979 and the multi-territory differing Best Of Bowie. The single peaked on the singles charts at number 8 in the UK and number 10 in the US.
Not a remix App
Despite the name, this isn't really a remix App. You get 8 tracks, and your 'mix' constitutes setting the volume level for each of the 8 tracks, for example making the drums a bit quieter, or bringing the bass to the fore. But it's even more basic than this because there is no sequencing so any playing around with the volume has to be done in real time.
On the positive side, it is pretty fascinating to turn the volume down on everything and listen to just Bowie's vocals. It is a bit annoying, though, that the original tracks have been compiled into only 8 tracks, cos bowie's voice is double tracked, and to remix it, it would be good to have it singe tracked.
You can, however, get your 'remix' emailed to you, so If you want to do a proper remix with your own equipment, turn the volume down all but the first track and email it to yourself, then the same for each subsequent track till you have all eight of them.
Would've been more sensible to do what Eno and Byrne did with My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and release all of the individual tracks, and not pretend that it is a remix App. I'd be happy to pay for that.
Tut, Tut EMI.
A great app in my opinion!
Ok, so it's a single track , but one of Bowie's greatest.. & it's not technically a remix app but you get to play with the original recorded individual stems, from the original 16 track recording.. how cool is that.? ..Save your mixes & email them to your mates as mp3's..if you really want to create a new remix, you could from there... If you love Bowie, you'll love it!
Hmm, I was expecting the ability to be able to rearrange the song in terms of order of tracks, but in reality all you can do is increase and reduce stems.. Not really remixing.
Still, it enables you to play about with a great Bowie tune, and with any luck an update in the future will allow the order of tracks to be rearranged, plus maybe extra songs.
Good for now, has potential.
