Defender of the Crown
I play this on my Amiga 600 2Mb and have been doing so for the last 20 years and 6 months. Now I can play it anywhere and not just in my office. The graphics are exactly the same as well as the music. I have to swap discs on the Amiga and I don't have to on the iPhone! The jousting is a lot faster which I think is a good thing. There are bugs and these need to be ironed out, I held a Tournament and then I tried to hold another one and it would not let me which was correct, then I clicked on it a few more times by accident and it did let me.
Almost, but not.....
So, ignored the reviews about the bugs (of which there are a few), and the fact you can't restore your game when going to the home screen and back to the app, and purchased anyway.
Plenty of nostalgia, graphics are spot on, sound is 100% but it just doesn't quite work, cursor is unresponsive, screen taps don't always register, bits missing from jousting (the Meele phase), can't move troops to garrisons, no defensive options (cross bow) when your home castle is under siege, army numbers drop or are miscalculated without explanation...
What I can't understand is that this is supposed to be an emulation, so should be 100% accurate but just isn't, real shame, and my refund request is already in...
Original was great but this...
Wow, it's amazing how they have managed to screw up this iPad port... I couldn't have messed up this badly if I tried. You have to swipe across the iPad about 4 times to get the cursor across the screen once - Why not just make the cursor appear wherever you put your finger? If you thought jousting was hard in the original, well, lets just say you'd probably have better odds being successful at REAL jousting. They dev should have created a new game from scratch, not just emulated the Amiga version. 1 star awarded as its the least I can give this terrible 'remake' of a truly amazing original game.
