Sometimes, cooking or heading out to a restaurant just isn’t in the cards. Deliveroo makes those moments far more memorable by delivering meals from places that don’t normally do that. The quick, clean interface makes it super-easy to find nearby burgers, sushi—whatever’s calling your name—and then place an order. We particularly love how the real-time updates on the driver’s progress tell us exactly when you'll get to satisfy that appetite.
No offline access
When a restaurant is offline Deliveroo refuses to allow customers to access their menu. I had a discrepancy from my last order and I couldn’t check their menu from the Deliveroo app, I literally had to google the company and go to their own website to check the prices. It’s frustrating that the entire restaurant listing is removed from the Deliveroo app when they’re offline when a simple warning before ordering food from an “offline” restaurant would suffice. Sometimes I like to check the menu of some restaurants to know ahead what I want to order and when Deliveroo removes the entire listing it causes business to be lost to some of the companies as I end up ordering from one of the listings that are visible before they open.
Also, when a restaurant cancels an order it would great if Deliveroo gave an explanation on behalf of the restaurant. I kept ordering from a restaurant that kept cancelling the order just to find out after a 20 mins call to Deliveroo that my orders were being cancelled because they lacked some of the ingredients. Deliveroo can simply give the restaurants a list of reasons including a “other reason” box for them to say why they’re cancelling the order, this way customers will know if they should continue to attempt ordering certain dishes or order from somewhere else.
My food was ‘shared with the homeless’
I made a mistake of putting down the wrong address and I was informed by my driver if I want to have it redelivered I need to ring customer services. After a series of phone calls I was told that my driver decided to ‘share my food with the homeless’ after waiting for me for more than 10 minutes at the address. I even called my driver again within the 10 minutes duration and was again told to ring customer service.
I was even willing to pay extra to redeliver or to travel to the delivered address myself to pick up my food but that was no longer an option. There is literally no other way for me but to give up my food. I was not able to get through to my driver after the second phone call despite trying for 10 minutes, as if my number had been blocked.
Funny thing is that my friends at the wrong delivery address heard no one ringing/knocking on the door.
I can’t help but to suspect my driver wanted to keep the food for himself at the end of the night shift thus refused to help me. I would reorder but everything is closed after midnight. This is by far the most unpleasant experience I have had with a food delivery service, and I have just cancelled my deliveroo plus subscription and deleted the app. Will be advising all my friends against using this app!
