DesignObserver.com is the leading site at the intersection of design, photography, illustration, architecture, urbanism, sustainability, social innovation and visual culture.
The Design Observer App offers a quick way to survey what is new everyday, as well as providing a better reading experience for all articles. You can browse the site by channel, by author or by topic. Our special Mondrian view allows you to scan articles by key images.
Design Observer publishes over 300 essays a year, as well as reviews, interviews, photo essays and slideshows, podcasts and videos. Over 100 writers contribute to our site each year, so there are many voices on the site including Michael Bierut, William Drenttel, Jessica Helfand, Julie Lasky and Nancy Levinson.
For Design Observer, design is a big, broad zone — graphic design, product design, interaction and information design, architecture and cities, spaces and places. We have a special love for the design of popular culture — especially movies and books. We also venture frequently into politics and social issues, and take a broad view of the culture around us.
informative and inspiring
A great app to have a coffee and a breakfast to in the morning and browse some design viewpoints. I always have it set to the 'new' option at the bottom. Not impressed with the Mondrian thing but doesn't spoil the app. I enjoy a good browse through the 'accidental mysteries' entries. Doesn't matter what area of design you study, the articles give good insight into fundamentals and ideas which always inspire if you open your mind. Highly recommended.
The only bugbear I have is that the back button disappears occasionally whereby I have to force quit the app.
Love it! A perfect companion for any individual, designer or not, who simply enjoys cutting edge design work. The app presents content well, and the depth of topics covered is excellent. This has become one of my favourite go-to apps along with TED. Well worth a look for sure.
This is a brilliant app, which is well presented and contains relevant and thought provoking articles.
