Editors' Notes

A breakneck football simulation, Dream League Soccer masterfully fuses savvy gameplay with the geeky immersion all fans crave. You’re put in charge of a humble lower-league club and handed complete control to mastermind a charge up the soccer pyramid. Everything from stadium improvements to transfers and player development are on your watch—and you’ll need to perfect your in-game skills, too. A warning: honing your abilities to score the goals for a promotion bid will require commitment.

Downward spiral continues

DLS 16 was tremendous, not perfect but a brilliant game. DLS 17 was not as good, aesthetically it was good but major flaws crept in, being given offside at throw-ins began to happen, goalies credited with own goals when touching but failing to save a free kick became the norm, tackling was harder but the computer controlled player tackled perfectly. DLS 18 claimed to address many of these flaws but they got worse, opposition players now had a force field protecting them, players under user control ran in the wrong direction, the nearest player to the ball was rarely selected. DLS 19 brings in a new option of game play but the same teams are harder to play against there than in the career mode, tackling is even harder as it requires tapping a button which also acts as a passing button when in possession, so before you know you have won the ball you have already kicked it away. Slide tackling almost always results in a booking but the computer controlled players tackle perfectly. It claims to have all the favourite players but it doesn’t even have all SPFL teams never mind their players. Not played it enough to find out if the weird offside decisions or goalie og’s still happen but the penalty method has changed again & is very inaccurate.

Also, every season the teams relegated the season before come straight back up, come on guys, mix it up a bit.

Disappointing DLS developers. You are breaking what wasn’t broken.

Fantastic until you complete everything

As much as i love this game and the way its structured, there are a few points i have to raise. First of all, i personally don’t think you are rewarded enough coins for matches. Maybe if the currency system was a bit more realistic, for example if you win the league you get 40 million credits which you can buy 2-3 players with. Instead you have to play through a whole season before you have enough to buy player, thats if you haven’t had to spend on injured players etc. And even when you do have enough, you can’t buy any top players. I must’ve spent at least £20 on coins in total just so i can get the players i need. Secondly, once you win the match against you’re clones team, the season starts again and you basically replay the same competition all over again and i hate to say this but it gets a little boring after the first time. I think putting a further plot into the game would be a lot more fun. One thing I thoroughly enjoy about this game though is the gameplay and being able to develop players. The rest still needs work and if anyone remembers First Touch Soccer 2015, i personally preferred the way that game worked. But overall a brilliant game and definitely worth a download.
