Duolingo is changing the way people learn languages.
With Duolingo, you learn a language completely for free. You have fun while you learn, leveling up and competing with friends.
Yeah, it's pretty sweet.

Bug fixes and performance improvements.
Superb, at least for Danish
I have been using Duolingo for a few weeks to learn Danish, and it is excellent - builds up learning nicely, easy to use and intuitive, and gradually develops sentence building in an unintimidating way.
The only improvement I would make to it would be to have some of the word matching with more similar words, to really test comprehension - with some of the tests they are too easy, but if the singulars, plurals, genetives and possible prepositions were mixed together (instead of with easy obvious words from earlier exercises), it could be more challenging and really strengthen learning.
So as we go through, we don't need to know more about turtles (beautiful though they are), but more testing of the specifics of the particular subject area. I hope that makes sense..
But overall, really enjoying learning with Duolingo!
Warning! Highly addictive
Love this app. I'm learning Spanish, which was never taught in school when I was a girl. Have set my target at 20XP per day but usually do far more because I can't STOP!
My only gripe is that I've come to realise that when it asks you to repeat a phrase, which it "records", it doesn't really. You can say anything you like and it will still often say it's correct and occasionally say it's wrong. I discovered that by accidentally saying something other than what I should have, and it still said it was correct. So then I started testing it.
Nevertheless I still do it properly (which is the point, isn't it?) but don't get too upset when I know I said it correctly but it says I didn't and try again - after all, that's more practice!
A fantastic app and I'm using Duolingo on the PC now as well.
Thank you so much!!
Good app, more detail on laptop
I've been using Duolingo to learn French for about half a year and I am improving. The 'phone app itself is fun and easy to use, but I would definitely suggest using it in combination with a laptop/computer as the Duolingo site as much more information at the start of each section. I wonder if perhaps there's a way to include this in the app? But on the whole I think this is a great way to get a grounding in a language.
