Download the Express & Star app for iPhone and iPad and get the latest news from the web and complete access to the digital edition of the newspaper on your device. (The digital edition requires a subscription).

With the introduction of a whole new interface, the Express & Star app features:

• A brand new menu system that enables you to quickly navigate to the sections that interest you most
• Simple swiping between articles
• Feature rich articles including embedded video, maps and polls
• Easy sharing of articles across social media
• Updated content refreshed regularly throughout the day, every day, 7 days-a-week
• Push notifications for breaking news (you will need to accept notifications from the app to receive this)
Access to the web content within the app is free, however if you wish to view the full digital edition of the paper you’ll need to be a subscriber. In the main menu of the app you will see a thumbnail of the most recent edition of the newspaper. Select the edition that you want to view and you’ll be presented with the subscription options.

Subscription to the digital edition within the app costs just £1.99 a week or £5.99 a month.

If you subscribe through the app store your subscription will be charged to your iTunes account upon purchase. The subscription will automatically renew within 24 hours of the current subscription expiring. Auto-renewal can be deactivated via your Apple account in the App Store. To manage your subscription, open the App Store and select the Apple ID button in the lower-left corner. (If you are not signed in, you will need to do that first.) In your Apple account page, select 'Subscriptions' then 'Manage' to see available options.

The Express & Star also offers multi-device access which enables users to access the app from any device and to read a digital edition of the newspaper on their computer. For more information visit

As a midlander (Black Country) I have used the E&S website for local news whilst away from home and without access to my usual newspaper. The app shows the news in a more easy to navigate format. However, some items are repeated on the different pages and some old items still show on some pages. The website is more likely to have breaking news than the app. The app is good as clicking on a headline gives more info. If even more needed then there's a link to the story on the web page. I haven't paid for full access to the paper via the app and I don't find the adverts intrusive. So, app more attractive presentation of news but website more upto date, and perhaps more variety. In the end they overlap but complement each other.

Terrible since update. You can't swipe pages whilst zoomed in, so you have to keep zooming out (which isn't easy when you have arthritis!).

The writing in the newspaper is also way to small and is not optimised to fit an iPad screen.

Unless it's fixed soon I will be cancelling my subscription.

Poor excuse for a news app

Bob the saddler

I'm a local who thought this may be useful when travelling but, after months of persevering I finally gave up when, following storm Doris, the headline was "paddling pool gets swept away" when in fact a poor woman had been killed in Wolverhampton by debris!
Wasn't even mentioned!
Enough said
