“An uncomplicated app that’s a joy to use” — GigaOm

Ember is your digital scrapbook of things that inspire you - be it websites, photos, apps or other things. Just drag in images that you want to keep, organise them into relevant collections, annotate the images you need to give feedback on, and share your images to your favourite web services.

Ember is built exclusively for the Mac for creatives like you, and we’re just getting started. We hope you enjoy it.

• Organise your ideas and design inspiration
Drag in images from your Mac and around the web, and organise them into Collections. Apply tags to images, and build Smart Collections based on the tags and other metadata in your library.

• Subscribe to your favourite websites
Subscriptions allow you to visually browse the web. Images can be saved to your Ember library, and shared with friends and co-workers.

• Build a scrapbook of designs you love
Save websites to your Ember library from Safari and Chrome with the powerful browser extensions. Ember doesn’t need to be running*, and you can send images to collections right from your browser. Ember uses the width of your browser window when snapping, meaning that the layout is exactly the same in the captured image.

Ember also features a responsive browser, allowing you to save responsive webpages at any desired width, and the Element Selection mode detects appropriate areas of the webpage to snap as you roll over them. There’s even handy presets for your favourite iOS devices to quickly set the browser width.

• Colours
Use natural language (for example, “Light Blue”) to search your library, and find matching images. You can even use Colours as rules in Ember’s powerful Smart Collections - for example, group all your five-star rated white Interior Designs together.

• iCloud
Store your Ember library in iCloud, and sync it across any Mac.

• Take Screenshots
Take screenshots with Ember, and they’ll automatically appear in your library with the name of the app applied to them. You can capture Fullscreen, Timed Fullscreen, Area and “Window” images.

• Sketch feedback on your images
Beautiful drawing and text tools allow you to give feedback on images. Cropping and rotation ensure that your images are always perfectly sized and aligned.

• Go Full Screen
Work undistracted with Ember in its own space.

• Share with friends and co-workers
Send your images with Email, AirDrop, Messages, iCloud, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr and CloudApp

• Auto-detects iPhone and iPad screenshots
Library organisation has never been easier: just drag in those PNGs from your favourite iOS device and Ember will automatically sort them into “Phone” and “Tablet” for you!

• Import from LittleSnapper
Ember imports libraries from LittleSnapper, and adds them to your Ember library.

We’re just getting started with Ember, and will be bringing you frequent updates with even more features and improvements. Be sure to follow @EmberApp on Twitter, or sign up for the newsletter in Ember itself, to keep up to date with the latest news!

* Just turn on the “Always Enable Browser Extensions” option in Preferences to snap without Ember being open.

What's New in Version 1.5

Organising your sidebar just got a whole lot easier: you can now create folders to group together your collections.

If you like Ember, we’d really appreciate a review on the App Store - and don’t forget, there’s an update to Ember for iOS that adds Folders. Check it out on your iPhone and iPad!

Thanks for your support!

Stand Alone Awesome with iCloud painful

If I was to use this app on just one Mac is woud be 4 stars at this point - many updates and new features make this a great app. The RSS feed are visually great and the tools are nice and simple to use. Could do with a Firefox plug in and I would love to be able to create shareable collections that others could subscribe too. BUT I am using Ember on 3 Macs and 2 Devices and this is where is breaks down as iCloud is just incapable of properly keeping everything in sync, I have a fear of losing half my libray on launch I have to keep restarting devices and taking snap shots to “force” sync this makes the app 2 stars just.

I think Ember should either move to Dropbox API (probably impossible) or try and put some pressure on Apple to actually do something about there woefull web service, sure we all know iCloud and its previous names (mobileme, .mac) have always been bad for Sync but come on Apple, when an App reveals those iCloud issues directly to me I fear for any of my other apps that rely on iCloud.

A really great image bookmarking tool

Having tried many visual bookmarking tools before, including many online. Ember has stood out as the clear winner.

The subscriptions are a great way to dip in to inspiration when you need it and it fits in to my workflow a treat.

Being a power user with many many bookmarks the app does not slow down and is always responsive, which is often a problem when using online tools.

*Updated Review*

I am another person who has lost all their data by relying on the iCloud syncing. All the data gone completely. Thankfully I found the actual physical location on a previous computer and restored an old backup.

I wouldn’t rely on icloud syncing at all, its unreliable so I can only in good faith, drop my original 4 stars to a 3.

Currently unusable, appalling support

The latest update of this piece of software has rendered it unusable. It crashes every time I try to open it.

I submitted a support ticket. So far I’ve had someone assume that my issue was resolved and closed my ticket, and when I raised that with them they then told me to do the same thing to rectify the issue that I told them wasn’t possible.

I rarely regret buying an app, but I certainly do with this one and it was over-priced to start with.
