Easy to read & navigate

Paul_H3

I have found the iPad versions of a couple of other Newsstand magazines I have tried to be difficult to read and difficult to navigate. Not so E&T, which is much better adapted to the iPad display - the other two retained the magazine page layout complete with columns with the result that the text is too small. E&T has each article as a single column so no need to zoom in. Swiping sideways allows you to navigate between articles and vertically scrolls through the chosen article. The sample version does not have many hyperlinks but if you do follow one, there is a back button.

The sample version misses a couple of regular features from the paper version of E&T: the News pages & the Teardown - a feature analysing the cost and construction of a product. The balance between ads and editorial is reasonable. If I had to suggest something for the wish-list, it would be an ability to bookmark articles or adverts - an equivalent to "dog-earring" pages in the paper version.

Members of the IET who currently get E&T as part of their membership package should wait until the institution arranges to let them get the electronic version free as part of their membership. When that does happen, I would be quite happy to go paperless with E&T based on this sample.

Nearly there

OllyT~

It is a great step forward to have a digital version of E&T magazine. I get it with my IET membership and before I started using the app it was common for me to have a pile of magazines with there shrink wrap still on. Having it on the iPad makes it much more likely that I will read an article when I have a few minutes spare.

On the app itself, things I would improve would be the intuitiveness of the scrolling for sidebar articles - the content here often feels hidden and how easy it is to see features like the big picture. I would also like comment to be built into the app so that it can be a way to generate a discussion.

Well worth a download...

E & T magazine

This is an excellent app and is back to its original standard after the hiccup while getting approval for changes to make it IOS 8 compatible.

I have been reading the online version for about eighteen months or so and find it more convenient than the paper version and it takes up less space in my small office. Plus it is much easier to find articles that you want to refer to.
