European Rail Timetable
By Digital Edition Technology Ltd
This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
The European Rail Timetable App is a concise guide to rail and ferry schedules throughout Europe, and even includes each month an area of the world outside of Europe. A new edition of the Timetable is published at the beginning of each month, as well as an extended version released in summer and winter.
Produced by the former compilers of the Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable it still remains the unique must have for Inter-Railers and Eurailers, as well as travel agents, independent travellers and libraries. It has all the relevant detail needed for travelling around Europe, the schedule of trains, important bus routes and shipping services as well as key country information.
The app is a faithful copy of the pages contained in the latest printed European Rail Timetable, benefits of the App include, access to monthly editions up to a week earlier than the printed copy, cheaper than the printed copy and has no postage costs.

What's New in Version 5.0.1
- Functionality improvements
Not particularly iPhone friendly
While useful, this is no more than a copy of the timetable. There does not seem to be any search by station name, no hyperlinks from the index to the tables, no location based search, and no ability to jump to table numbers. And there's no journey planner. Considering the app price I would have expected all of these.
A poor digital version of the print edition
This is nothing more than a basic PDF version of the print edition, and has managed to be rather less user friendly than a real book.
In the real book, I can add bookmarks, turn down page corners, highlight train times… none of this is possible in this app, making research tasks much more difficult than they need to be.
The price is reasonable, since that is more or less what the print edition costs, but a digital version really should offer better navigation and interaction than this. They could have used a PDF Reader engine in the background and got closer to that feature list.
Buy the paper version instead.
