Customer Reviews

Every time I use this app there is something wrong. Currently, having just upgraded to an annual subscription, I am rewarded with no access whatsoever and a load of tatty ads which benefits the developer, not the reader. No amount of app closures, iPad restarts, app deletion and reloading fixes it. Previously, it has been a case of every article I open, opens the same one, until there is a change in the wind direction. And someone keeps insisting on putting black text on dark backgrounds WHICH WE CAN'T READ. We enjoy your work, Evo and on the occasions I can read your articles, enjoy it, but your developer is publishing an app which isn't fit for purpose - you are wasting your money with them. And this has clearly been going on for a long time. Please terminate their contract and reappoint a company technically capable and that cares.

Content is fine…but...

13 months ago I wrote a review pointing out that when swiping up/down to read and article, it’s very very easy to accidentally swipe left or right to the next/prev article. When you go back, you’re reset to the start of the article you were reading. 13 months on, has anything been done about this? Nope. There are other reviewers saying the same thing. It CANNOT be so difficult to sort this out. Safari on the iPhone has this working perfectly. If your initial swipe is straight up or down, whilst your finger remains on the screen, the page will ONLY scroll up and down and even if you move your finger slightly left or right, it will not move the page side to side. Every time I try to use the digital magazine (I’m a paper subscriber too), i get pi55ed off with the fact it’s just horrible to browse. Come on Evo, Please, get it sorted.

Great content, poor execution

Evo magazine itself is great and in theory having the magazine on your phone is perfect in the modern age. Trouble is, typical for an old media organisation, the app itself is mediocre and unreliable at best. New articles generally appear in a clump days after they're supposed to, usability issues like losing its place in a post after switching apps and coming back as well as it being too easy to swipe to the next article while scrolling have gone unfixed for years. Poor show.
