Best Formula 1 game on iTunes, but still not brilliant.
I'm a huge Formula 1 fan, so when I discovered I could buy a Formula 1 game for my new iPod Touch, I got very excited and purchased it straight away. And whilst it's by far the most superior Formula 1 game you can buy on iTunes, it still has a number of issues:
1) The controls. Their just way to sensitive and it's almost impossible to play the game if your in the car for example, or on a bus or train. You have to be completely still to remain in even the slightest bit of control of the car. The steering is also not responsive enough and even corners such as Bridge at Silverstone are incredibly difficult to perform, despite being a flat-out right hander.
2) The frame-rate. It's extremely choppy to say the least. I've had the game freeze entirely at times.
3) It's only a time-trail game. And even if theres no bigger thrill than blasting through Eau Rouge flat out, once you've done it on your own 5 times in a row, even the biggest of Formula 1 fans such as myself can find themselves getting very bored.
But if your desperate to get your portable Formula 1 kicks, and at an extremely reasonable £1.79, you can't really go wrong with this (it is your only option but that's besides the point).
Good game but needs a little fine tuning
Having played BMW's game as well as Brawn's game I can safely say this is by far the best F1 game on the iPhone and makes the others look like rubbish. In fact, I deleted them.
This is the official game and the graphics are stunning. It also has a decent F1 engine sound and several camera options.
True, you don't race in races only time trials, but you race against yourself and the clock, which makes it thoroughly intense and enjoyable.
It's not all roses though because there is one problem: the steering is EXTREMELY sensitive, even on the lowest setting. This makes it tricky to follow the racing line and be smooth.
After some time you do get the hang of it, but not to the point where you feel really confident. I have emailed them asking (as I'm sure many have) to update the game with lower sensitivity and hopefully they will respond accordingly.
A really nice touch is the worldwide leaderboards and the Twitter/Facebook integration. The music soundtrack is also brilliant.
Overall I'd say it's definitely worth buying.
Looks great but controls put me off
Excellent graphics but the steering controls really are ridiculous, so frustrating that after putting 10+ laps in and still struggling you want to give up the game and get your money back. Even on a low steering sensitivity the car is very difficult to steer, and you cant even make the sharp turns unless sensitivity is higher. It's even worse if you're trying to play the game whilst travelling or don't have both hands free. Tilt steering is a nice idea in theory but this is an awful implementation - perhaps add the option of a D pad for steering with tilt to accelerate? Until this is sorted, and a race option added, I wouldn't buy.
