Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.
Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.
Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.
Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)
Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.
What's New in Version 25.0
Thanks for using Messenger! We update the app around every two weeks so it continues to work great for you. We're also working on fun new features, and we're excited for you to try them out soon.
Let's clear this up!
I have just gone through and read a ton of these silly reviews on this app and I am shocked to see people so agitated at a APP! This is a great app, actually.. And if you don't think it is then so be it!! This app does exactly what it's supposed too so stop moaning because it was "removed" from the Facebook site. It was their own decision and hey thought it was good so they did it. It makes me mad too see people complaining at the fact it's laggy or whatever you all call it when actually isn't, it is YOUR device making it like that because nobody else is really having a problem.
Pointless yet useful
Overall it is a good app and has never stopped working for me but, I do not understand why you need another app just for messages, it's easier to have it all on Facebook.
Also I do not like how we cannot read a message privately, there should be an 'unseen' setting were we can read a message without the other person knowing.
It's so jarring to have to keep jumping between apps. I used to read and respond to my messages when I looked on my wall on Facebook. If someone responded while i was reading fb I could easily reply and keep on reading. Now if I'm trying to hold a conversation I have to keep switching between apps constantly. Sometimes fb loses the place I was at and I have to find where I'd got to.
This is such a horrible user experience it's driven me to delete it. Have gone back to using SMS, email and other apps for keeping in contact.
