Facewatch ID is a free application allowing members of the public in the UK to confidentially identify images issued by the police.
Those already taking advantage of Facewatch ID include the Metropolitan, Surrey, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire forces. West Midlands Police have recently agreed to use the app across their force area, strongly supported by the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Use your location to enter a postcode, to view persons of interest to the Police, which may be suspected criminals or witnesses to a crime. Remember, it is an offence to give false evidence to the Police.
If you identify any of the images, the application allows you to enter details that are known including name and address. The information is then sent directly, and confidentially, to the UK Police.
Facewatch has been provided with the images by the Police Forces shown on the image ID page and is providing this service on behalf of those Forces.
What's New in Version 2.0
The Facewatch ID app is currently fully supported and approved by the above list of forces and is due for more widespread UK National rollout during 2014.
The new version of Facewatch ID has a new map to select your location, a new gallery to view subjects of interest in your area with the ability to select a distance from your current location. You can now hide images that you don't recognise and give better identity information to the police to help them in their investigations.
More pictures by telling your local police
This app was intended for the London area "to begin with"- if you want to help fight crime in your area tell your local businesses and community police to get in touch with FaceWatch and spread the word, but this is a "britains most wanted " that everyone can help with, see if any of your friends are not what they seem...
Bug with distance and images too small
Great idea but the distance sets itself to 59 miles once you have deleted all local photos.
Also it needs the capability to blow the photos up as some of them are too small to view in the resolution they are displayed.
Good app but needs improvement
It would be really useful to be able to zoom in on images, as they can be difficult to see as they stand using a phone. Also, it would help if the location (town or suburb) where the image was taken could be shown.
