Great start

A very neat RSS reader that offers a good alternative as Google Reader closes. It remains to be seen how the market develops but this is a neat little app that offers a reasonable amount of functionality.
Importing your feeds can take a while for some of them, but it seems to get there in the end. Feed Wrangler integrates with both Pocket and Instapaper - and encourages you to identify the articles that you want to send to these services. However, it does have the ability to read articles in app - either in an optimised format or by taking you to the web site itself. The app doesn't have a lot of options at the moment, and it would be nice to see some additional fonts. However, the developer has (rightly) concentrated on getting up and running. There are some powerful organising options with Feed Wrangler's smart streams.
I purchased the subscription on the Feed Wrangler site (which offers a 14-day money back guarantee if you aren't happy). I'm very happy to far - and I'm hoping that other RSS readers make use of the API to integrate with Feed Wrangler too. I'm also looking forward to seeing the promised Mac OS X app to allow desktop use.

A solid 1.0 with a refreshingly clean interface

Make no mistake, this is no Reeder or Mr. Reader. It’s not the most powerful RSS reader in the world, nor is it trying to be. However, there’s a refreshing simplicity to it. I thought I was an RSS “power user”, but I actually find myself quite comfortable using the app. It’ll probably add more of these features in future updates (indeed, I hope it does), but it’s surprisingly usable already.

There are plenty of limitations and rough edges (this is a 1.0 product), but the stuff it does, it does very well. It’s not crashed or locked up on me once, despite heavy usage, and some smart ideas seem to have gone into its development. It’s not just another Google Reader clone.

I’m also glad to be paying for the service, so that I have the piece of mind that it won’t be closed in a year’s time.

Oh, and this is actually quite a tasteful blue icon, that I’m pleased to give a place on my home screen.

Poor and unloved

Both the Feedwrangler app and its website are a real disappointment. Thankfully the underlying sync service is solid, but neither present a user-friendly service for adding, or deleting feeds. Setting up smart streams is possible, though there are only basic options. There's no way of getting statistics on the feeds, including when they were last updated.

Almost as bad is that neither app or website has (as far as I can tell) had any significant update since they were first launched. The team clearly has no interest in improving anything. I will be looking for alternatives at the end of the billing cycle.
