first direct Banking on the go
By first direct
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
To use this first direct Banking on the go app you need to be a first direct customer and registered for first direct Internet Banking.
We know that you like to manage your money when you’re ‘on the go’. That’s why we’ve created this app. It allows you to see and use some of your Internet Banking services more easily on a smaller screen.
Our app allows you to:
• view balances and up to your last 90 transactions
• make transfers between your accounts with us
• make payments to a person or organisation you have paid before using Internet Banking
You’ll still need to log on to full Internet Banking at firstdirect.com regularly to access all services. We recommend you do this at least every 14 days. Some of the Internet Banking services that you can only access by logging on at firstdirect.com are:
• full statement information
• details of monthly charges, fees and interest
• sending, receiving and viewing attachments of secure messages
• setting up payments to a person or organisation you haven’t paid before
• cancelling or amending a payment you have set up
We don’t charge you for this app, but we can’t say the same for your network provider, who may charge you for downloading and using the app. You’ll be responsible for these charges.
We recommend that you don’t use this app abroad, but if you do, you’ll need to make sure that it’s permitted by local law, and remember your network provider’s charges may be higher.
The app may be withdrawn at any time; we will tell you if this is going to happen.
It’s important that you only download apps in accordance with the terms and conditions that you have agreed with Apple.

Excellent App (on iPhone)
I have this on an iPhone 5s and an iPad Pro. The iPhone version is excellent as you don't need to remember your password - you can use Touch ID which is becoming the norm on these types of apps. I find it quicker to login and transfer money on the phone than via the website. The iPad doesn't let me use Touch ID. No idea why. Maybe you can only have one authorised device. Anyway, it's still a thumbs up from me!
A very disappointing app (and website) from First Direct. If their rates weren't so good I would leave tomorrow - perhaps their low rates mean they can't afford to invest properly in technology? Despite the image in the App Store showing a current account and a mortgage account you can't manage your mortgage accounts in the app or online. Having a bank that you need to call is a huge backwards step for me moving from Barclays who had excellent online and app services. The convoluted security is also a nightmare. Transfers also don't work on the app, if you click 'Transfer' it tells me to go to the website! Sort it out First Direct!
Touch ID broken
Never the greatest app in the first place, but now the Touch ID function switches itself off and when you switch it back on it may or may not work at all before it switches off again.
Also needs a "make another payment from this account" button - too fiddly to make multiple payments, it should be an option to come out of an account after a payment, not forced onto you.
