How to Save Money
first direct aren’t like any other bank we like to do unexpected things. That’s why we have created Saveapp - a really cool free App that will guide you through how to save and will help you saving money by spending less.
Saveapp gives you saving tips and helps you reduce the money you spend on the little things, so you can save up for something bigger and better.
It does this by sending you helpful reminders - which you set up and control.
Savings Plan - Set a savings goal
Set up a savings goal and Saveapp will help you reach it.
1. Set what it is you want to save for - it could be a holiday, new car, wedding or something of your choice.
2. Add the amount you’re saving and when you want to save it by.
3. Add a photo if you like – but Saveapp won’t make you!
Set up your cut backs
Set up what it is you’re willing to cut back on.
1. Enter your cutbacks - it could be taxis, buying lunch out or anything you would like to spend less money on.
2. Enter how much you spend and when you spend it.
Set up reminders
Set when and where you would like to be reminded.
• Time and day – set as many times and days as you like.
• Location hot spots – set up location hotspots and Saveapp will ping you a message when you’re nearby. How cool is that!
That’s it Saveapp does the rest. Happy saving!

Off to a good start
This app is a good idea but needs some tweaks to improve it. It seems only to allow for daily/ weekly cutbacks rather than things one might pay for monthly or yearly like subscriptions or memberships so reminders weekly aren't helpful. Also the ability to put in things like annual premiums to remind one to search for a best deal would be good. If it were also possible to add 'unplanned' or one off savings it would be an advantage (a lottery win for example). A running total is helpful but weekly or monthly sub totals of savings would be better so one could actually transfer that amount into a savings account. And a facility to include a regular transfer from a current account would help keep track of the total savings.
Now do this for the banking app, please
Credit where it’s due - this is quite a nicely coded app. Design is intuitive and menus are fluid and pleasing to use. So why are FD putting resources into this when their main online banking app is so excruciatingly poor? Please get the team who designed this to make a new banking app.
Pointless
Pointless app. Guessing how much you're going to spend and the time you're going to spend it each week is impossible, therefore saving with this app is impossible.
If it was linked to your first direct account and the app categorised your actual spend based on transactions each week/ month, that would be perfect and you could save effectively.
