More than just a game, First Words Sampler is a powerful educational tool for toddlers and preschoolers. It provides hours of fun while giving your child a head start on learning about letters and words.

If your child is old enough to ask for your phone, they're old enough for First Words Sampler!

First Words Sampler teaches kids about letters, how letters relate to sounds, and even how to spell words. First Words Sampler is toddler-tested and approved, with a user-interface designed specifically for the littlest of fingers. The game includes beautiful illustrations, each matched with entertaining sounds and high-quality recordings of letters and words.

Kids can play the game by themselves, but they also enjoy bringing their adults along, talking about the animals, saying the names of the letters, and watching the pictures spin around and sound off.

This free application is a sampling of words selected from our highly rated paid apps, First Words Animals and First Words Deluxe. We've also included some words from our Spanish, German, Japanese and French First Words apps. If you like First Words Sampler, you can keep your toddler laughing and learning with the full paid applications.

Note: We love getting feedback and hearing stories about kids using our software. Leave a comment in iTunes and send us feedback at Tell us what you'd like to see us do next.

Sadly pretty terrible...

Pretty terrible I'm afraid - it doesn't teach children to read because it uses the letter names, NOT the letter sounds, so it's not phonetic and therefore the child cannot link the sounds together to create a word. Sad

Developer Response

Actually, First Words Sampler DOES support phonics! Go to the Options screen, and select the Language option. You'll have the choice of US English or British English with either Phonics or Letter Names. We agree with you Phonics are key to learning how to read.

But not a very good app... Children do not learn the letter names until after they know the letter sounds confidently... This app may help with spellings but not with sounds...

Could we have it in English please?

Why do I need a nickname 34

This is a really good program with options for French and Spanish but for the love of god could you please do an option for English - English. Most people in the states have no idea just how annoying the insipid generic US* accent is and for this reason I will only be using this app. for my daughter's French.

* before this sounds like a rant I would like to point out that several US accents are truly wonderful. I once knew a girl from Virginia and simply listening to her read the telephone directory would have been a pleasure.
