HOW IT WORKS
Most aircraft today are equipped with ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. Flightradar24 has a rapidly growing network of 20,000 ground stations around the world to receive this data that then shows up as aircraft moving on a map in the app. In an expanding number of regions, with the help of multilateration, we’re able to calculate the positions of aircraft that don’t have ADS-B transponders. Coverage in North America is also supplemented by real-time radar data. Coverage is variable and subject to change at any time.

Ratings and Reviews
Just got this app and I was well impressed with it until that is,it showed a helicopter near Wigan some 18 miles away and as I tracked it towards my position,it vanished? The helicopter actually showed up not half a mile from my bedroom window but the AR didn't show it and it's vanished off screen?? It certainly hasn't crashed because I know where it's landed!....not good I'm afraid.( Update)...I've just had a response to my review and it seems there are many variables to tracking and showing aircraft. I guess I'm used to using a similar type of app for ships which is very accurate. So although the reasons for the missing aircraft are out of the apps control it only goes up 1 star as in the end there are still aircraft flying over my house that just don't appear on the app. Not sure if this is any help but it appears that the larger the aircraft, the more likely it is to show up? A few single prop and helicopters have definitely flown over and " off the radar" as it seems. Thanks for the teams reply in explaining things too! Summary then... Seems good for general information but does not have 100% accuracy. Maybe the other similar apps are of a same ability too so happy plain hunting!
UPDATE..Amazingly since paying the gold subscription everything works as it should! Shame it's so pricey though,

Sorry for the confusion! Please note that we use different technologies in order to display or "see" aircraft on the map, like ADS-B, MLAT and others. A lot of factors come into play when it comes to detect every aircraft, including the emitter on board, our coverage and receivers in the area, the altitude, and many more. For questions regarding why sometimes a specific plane doesn't show on the app, or how we work, please don't hesitate to email firstname.lastname@example.org
Old app/new app!
Well I’ve had the old app for about 2 years and seems to have got slower and like somebody else said some planes and helicopters don’t show up! Also why should we have to pay for an upgrade at all?? As after all I paid for it originally so did 1000’s of others no doubt and the subscription as well?
Firstly it doesn't actually show what features you do and don’t get within the silver and gold subscription and again I ask why should we have to pay for a subscription!! You don’t buy a house then pay rent!
And you don’t buy a car and then pay a lease!
So if it was a subscription from the beginning and myself and so many 1000’s of others had decided to download it then that’s our choice but it wasn’t it was meant to be a 1 off payment for an app! So app developers stop being greedy with the subscription it was your own fault you made it a 1 off fee in the first place!
So update of my review as of 14th August 2018 no reply from developers as to why we should have to pay for a upgrade after we already bought the app I think the whole thing stinks! I paid for the app and because they realise they’re missing out on subscription prices I.E. profit! They decide to try and get us to updraft at our cost!!! Must think I got out of a banana boat yesterday!!
AR Problems July 2018 - Update
Update: following a swift response from the developer, and a dig in the depths of the iPhone settings, the problem is resolved. It was all down to compass calibration - how do these things change? I’ve now restored the five star rating, thanks go to Simon.
In the last 3 weeks my AR has failed. It was working fine before but now all I get is a partial picture in the top left hand corner of my iPhone SE screen. The map circle appears at the bottom along with the slider and the pause button all of which seem to work but make no difference to AR. I’ve deleted and reinstalled several times, changed the compass to the apple version and changed various settings all to no avail. Finally I checked FR24 on my wife’s iPhone SE and AR works fine. There is nothing on the forum save for a 2016 reference to a similar problem on an iPad but no real solution. I’m a silver member and generally very pleased with FR24 but a resolution to this would be good.

Hello Frontera! I am sorry to hear about this. There's an easy fix for this problem. Please go to Settings > Privacy > Locations services > System services (at the bottom of the list) > Compass calibration (make sure it is turned on). This should fix the issue. /Simon
