Most aircraft today are equipped with so called ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. Flight radar 24 has a rapidly growing network of several thousand ground stations around the world to receive this data that then shows up as aircraft moving on a map in the app. In an expanding number of regions Flightradar24, with the help of multilateration, is able to calculate the positions of aircraft that don’t have ADS-B transponders.

Traditional radar data is also used in the app thanks to a direct feed from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This data provides near real-time coverage of all US and Canadian airspace.

Flightradar24 provides unrivaled positional aircraft data coverage around the world but there are areas where we don’t have coverage. If you are only interested in tracking air traffic in a specific region, we suggest that you check our website BEFORE purchasing the app.

Overview of coverage as of April 2015:
* Europe: close to 100%
* North America: 100% of US and Canada via slightly delayed radar data. Real-time coverage for most of US, Canada and Mexico for ADS-B equipped aircraft
* South America: Substantial coverage in most countries including Brazil, Argentina and Chile
* Asia: Substantial coverage in most major Asian countries including Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, Malaysia, Taiwan and many other countries. Rapidly expanding coverage in China
* Oceania: Nearly complete coverage in Australia and New Zealand
* Africa: Substantial coverage in South Africa. Limited but growing coverage in the rest of the region

Coverage is subject to change at any time.

What's New in Version 6.4.2

Release to improve stability and fix issues.

In our recent major release we focused on search to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for. The design is new and we've added the option to find a flight by route. There are two ways to find a flight by route:
- Use the "Flight by route shortcut" from the search menu
- Type the three-letter code of the departing and arriving airport into the search box, e.g. MSP-AMS

We have also added a tutorial (available from the main menu under "Help") to give you an overview of the main features in the app.

As we cannot reply to reviews, please contact if you have a question.

A Great App

This app is one of the best I've downloaded. FlightRadar shows you a world map view with thousands of live flights on it, with their pretty much exact locations. Tap on a plane and you get a comprehensive (yet rather simple) view of all the min information for the flight: altitude, heading, long-lat coordinates, speed, aircraft registration, flight number, squawk, aircraft type and, of course, departure/arrival airports and times.

You can also get a view of the aircraft's journey so far, and it's flight path, as well as a "3D" view of its location. Filters allow you to narrow down the aircraft you see by certain characteristics, such as airline or speed. Also, you can search for a specific flight, and enable aircraft logo labels on the plane icons.

Whilst the app is great, there are some issues, such as location accuracy - sometimes planes can move haphazardly and even appear to have come off the runway! Also, the 3D view could be improved, as its really just flying above a 2D map. However, if these things don't really bother you, get this app!

I often used to see planes high in the sky and wonder where they were bound. I'm not talking about Heathrow or London City because I live in London, but aircraft you can barely see apart from a vapour trail streaming from behind a glint in the sky at 35,000 plus. On odd occasions I could identify them, but often not, but thanks to flightradar24 I can now identify and enjoy seeing airlines that never touch down on British shores. Just one slight quibble; for some reason I seem to have lost the 'nearby flights' ikon unfortunately. Other than that, I simply love this app and what it does.

Love this App!

This is a very handy app- clear views of different aircraft, tracks, destinations, airlines & lots more when you click on the icon. The only thing missing from the phone version are the airline logos (still available in the iPad version) which is a shame. As a lifelong plane spotter I only allow myself to look up a plane when I've already identified the type and airline, or if I can't see it clearly enough, but this is great at confirming or correcting my observations!
