Florence is an interactive storybook from the award-winning lead designer of Monument Valley about the heart-racing highs and heartbreaking lows of a young woman's very first love.

Florence Yeoh feels a little... stuck. Her life is an endless routine of work, sleep, and spending too much time on social media. Then one day, she meets a cello player named Krish who changes everything about how she sees the world and herself.

Experience every beat of Florence and Krish's relationship through a series of mini-game vignettes - from flirting to fighting, from helping each other grow... to growing apart. Drawing inspiration from 'slice of life' graphic novels and webcomics, Florence is an intimate and unforgettable story.

Emotional, eloquent, endearing

This game (comic) is a fresh and well made study of a modern relationship and the path it takes for Florence (the protagonist). The music is beautifully designed to fit the game’s aesthetic, gameplay and story to add to the emotion created by the luscious art style. Although the story is told with little to no dialogue, the mechanics with which it tells it are creative and engaging, helping the player to empathise with the characters and even relate the tale to their own life as I did as it is easily applicable and understood by anyone. The use of colour and instrumental association in this game should also be commended.

My only flaw with this game lies with the price. Although cheap, this game has a very short length taking me half an hour at most (playing slowly). Although I feel length of the game to be correct for the story I feel this price should be dropped slightly especially given the lack of replay-ability the game has.

If I could I would give this game 4 and a half stars because of this. If you’re buying the comic I would consider it more as a work of art than a game and that in doing so it stands out as truly a beautiful melody amongst the generic grey of modern life.

I played this just after midnight as I got into bed, and put my earphones in just like the app recommends. I honestly felt like I was completely immersed in this story, it was beautiful! It hooked me in right away. The artwork, the music, the storytelling, literally everything worked so well together and made it so worthwhile. I related to Florence a lot, and found myself reacting to the situations to try and keep her happy. Or to try and make choices that I though would be the best for her in the long run. A couple of the interactions really took me a good bit to finish, I was thinking about them that much! It’s a rather short comic, only around 15-20 minutes in total it took for me, but there’s so much in there, and you get much more out of it! I highly recommend everyone should at least try this game. If interactive comics and the likes interest you, please play this. Thank you for this, It’s beautiful. 💕

Be still my beating heart!

Okay so this game isn’t long, it’s not difficult or challenging and it’s not something that would keep you occupied while, for example, waiting in line somewhere. Because it is so much more than I expected from a phone app.

It is, in short, a work of art. I could write a paper on this game. Actually I think I could write a book on this game (I know I’m kind of halfway there). But it is so beautiful, in the way it presents the small tasks that litter daily life, the repetitiveness of the ones you don’t want and the uniqueness of the ones that sweep the character off her feet.

Emotionally, it will build you up, break you down and then build you up again. An amazing game, especially for the creators’ first. It just felt real.
