The best

This is probably my favorite app for my photography, though it doesn’t replace a real lens it’s great for phone photos!! It really does an incredible job and lets you adjust so many thing even with just the free version. Using this app with Lightroom really is a winning combo. Though I would like to be able to zoom in a bit more when in the patch section since I use it a lot to be accurate but with a small phone screen and not being able to fully zoom in it’s really hard sometimes. Another part about the patch section is I wish you could see the image a bit better, for example if you could paint transparently on the image directly (You just see the picture and what you’re painting.)
Also if there were more extreme bokeh options It would be so helpful.

Very good but...

... still not a replacement for a proper camera with a wide lens.

Works really well with photos taken in Portrait Mode, and you can change the focus point easily, as well as set a ton of other effects. However, for aperture changes (deeper or shallower focus), Apple's built-in editor is good enough, and this covers the vast majority of photo focus edits.

But the problems really start when trying to set the focus for non-Portrait Mode photos. Granted, the app does an amazing job at guessing what should be in focus, but it's still not perfect and you will see errors in almost every photo you try. I found that I couldn't accurately correct background/foreground separation of the non-Portrait Mode photos using the depth tool. There were always parts that were either in or out of focus when they shouldn't have been.

If the subscription wasn't nearly so expensive, I'd be inclined to be more forgiving, but at this price point, I would personally expect flawless results, or at least better/easier background/foreground selection. As it is, this is little more than a toy.

Seems like a scam

Apps like this feel like a scam. In the past people decried mobile apps as being hard to make good as no one would pay for it. Well maybe no one is paying £3.99/week but I can’t see how this app is worth more than Capture One, a professional software that is itself sometimes called too expensive.

At £210 for a year this app is up there with Adobe subscriptions or niche professional software packages but it’s just an iPhone app.

This app is apparently made by the same people behind Filmic Pro, an app that has recently adopted a subscription model and annoyed many customers who had bought it. The new subscription fee is annoying but not too awful. Seeing that the developers are running this scam, forcing people to sign up to pay £210/yr for this, I will definitely cancel the subscription and use another app instead. I had already considered this but was happy to pau before, I refuse to support shady developers though.
