Ratings and Reviews
I have been using the Focus At Will service now for a few years at least, I rate the service on the whole as very very good. However the application on both Desktop and Mobile are extremely poor, and I find them painful to use. Streaming to HomePod I have on my desk fails, the app fails when I lose signal when not at my desk (Working on a train for example) and it eats the battery life.
However even if it is a 1* app, the aim of the app is to increase focus, and that it does to an amazing level. If only the developers could put a tenth of the work that has gone in to making the music so effective in to making the app effective it would be an awesome application all round.
Easy focus music but app is a drain
I do rely on this app because it takes the decisions out of finding focus music.
However it’s apps are not very well built. I measured a constant 100% CPU use on my Mac even when not playing, even when hidden (sadly app is not on the Mac App Store so I cant rate it there), and loading it in a browser tab is still quite costly on CPU. I dread to think how much battery it uses on my phone.
The options for focus music are okay - I’d like to see a little more choice, so many channels have poor descriptions and haven’t been taken out of “beta” (took me a long time to understand that’s not beta as in brainwaves, but beta as in testing) since they were introduced 18 months ago.
Saying that, the main channels they have are good.
You might get irritated if you are interrupted at work a lot because there is no pause button for the timer, which is an inconvenient “feature”.
A great way to help you focus.
I’ve been a subscriber to Focus@will for several years now and I find it invaluable for helping me to maintain focus at work, especially in noisy open-plan environments. Setting the timer for periods of about 45 minutes seems to be optimal and reminds me to get up and move around occasionally. I really recommend it, I especially love the Kora channel, it’s excellent for achieving a highly focussed state.
