What's New in Version 2.0.1
We’ve given the app a makeover so it fits with your Freetime box better than ever – and there’s plenty of improvements under the hood as well. The app is now more stable ready for a winter packed with great telly.
Your Freesat ID is now called a Freetime ID – this won’t affect your box, but you may need to log back in. Once you do that, you’ll see all of your recordings right where they were.
Disappointed - here's hoping it improves soon!
When I first downloaded this app, it wasn't too bad. I agree with other reviewers that the interface is annoying; I also don't like the switching from horizontal to vertical channel selections, and the majority of my recordings - both planned and completed - did not show up despite numerous filtering attempts. Although you can search for programs, provided you're fairly precise with the name, you can't search for channels...
I could just about live with all that as it did at least interact with my box, allowing me to set recordings (although there seems to be a ridiculous pause in communication between iPad/iPhone and STB, even when I'm sat right next to it!) and change channels by sliding the channel image to the 'TV' icon.
Since the update, this app has become near redundant. The channel changing icon doesn't work/exist and it constantly tells me it cannot connect to my STB, even though I'm apparently logged in! I know this is free, but to release an update that makes the product worse rather than better seems somewhat counter-intuitive! I'm very much hoping they'll take note of complaints and start from scratch with the whole thing.
Oh what a shame..used to be great
Since the latest app upgrade mid-Dec 15 the whole experience of using my Humax 1000s with this app has been a nightmare. The ability to remotely add recordings and manage existing ones just stopped working properly. This list of what was planned was rarely in sync with my Humax and remote setting just randomly worked occasionally.
The killer issue is that my box just started to randomly freeze and I had loads of missed recordings suddenly. The box would stay operational for about a day before requiring a complete power off at the plug reboot again. I guessed that the issue was probably caused by the every 20 minute connection to the internet that checks for updates to and from the app by the box.
So I simply deleted the freetime ID on my Humax box and this stopped the freezing issue in its tracks. It's such a shame that this has happened and it needs freesat to fix this and tell everyone that they have done so. The loss of remote recording (the remote control functionality still works fine) is a small price to pay for having a stable box.
My wife and I are both completely blind, and make use of the inbuilt voiceover software on our iPhones. We were previously customers of an alternative satellite television provider, but found their prices far too high. However, the accessibility of their iPhone app was reasonably good. Unfortunately, the Freesat app is mainly inaccessible. As much as we are able to search for programs and stream them and set reminders or recordings, we're not able to view what has been recorded on our TV box, or make use of the remote control features. Having upgraded to the newest version, but I now can't see any of my recordings. TV Guide is also completely inaccessible with voice-over enabled. This is a great disappointment as it is one of the reasons we chose to migrate to the Freesat platform. In an ideal world, everybody would have access to the same feature set and be able to do everything independently. I really hope that the developers of this app feel the same about their application.
