Gamebook Adventures returns for its fifth title! Please note that you do not need to have read any of the previous gamebooks in order to read and play this. The critically acclaimed series of newly imagined interactive fantasy gamebooks puts you, the reader, in control of the story! Along with a realistic dice-based battle system to fight creatures, an epic tale and beautiful artwork, Catacombs of the Undercity will give you many hours of gamebook adventuring!
"Captured by one of Orlandes City’s most infamous brotherhoods, the Red Hand Guild, you are thrown to the mercy of the subterranean world deep beneath the streets of the great capital. Wading through the sewers and other dark menacing places, your goal is to reach Undercity, the City beneath the City! Only there can you find the help you need to escape this underground horror and bring down the dark brotherhood from within."
"My favourite examples so far though are the iPad and iPhone-compatible Gamebook Adventures, a series of lovingly crafted and extremely well-written interactive fantasy novels. It's surprisingly engrossing stuff, the economically written narrative packing in masses of detail, while rattling out a pacey, involving story." - The Guardian
"Catacombs of the Undercity is the best entry into the Orlandes series I’ve played yet. It’s exciting, atmospheric and even amusing at times, plus there are plenty more beasties to battle too." - iPhoneFreak (4/5)

Fun dungeon crawling game book
The fifth entry in Tin Man’s original Gamebook Adventure series continues the good work they have done so far and returns the action to Orlandes City, or, rather, beneath it. You are an adventurer who is captured by a guild of thieves and thrown in the sewers where you must fend for your life and try to escape.
The first part of the book is a full dungeon crawler and is the best bit of exploration in the series so far. Eventually you reach the Undercity of the title, an imaginatively depicted location, and can team up with an ally. This all makes the adventure bigger than the first four and there is a lot of scope to replay it a few times to discover all the locations and routes. As usual, some places must be visited and items collected or you fail at the end, and there are quite a lot of crucial dice rolls, but it never feels too unfair.
My only issue with this app is that there are a lot of typos and a few bugs. Worst of all, the directions left and right often mixed up, making mapping quite tricky. On a side note, it would be good to have had a mapping feature built in. A couple of bugs in the achievements and a few links going astray (although fortunately nothing critical) means that this feels the least polished of the series. It's a pity, as the rest of the app, including artwork, music and gameplay options, is the usual high quality. Nevertheless a fun and worthwhile game book.
Tin man games are very good. They have a very good user friendly playing engine. They are well written. But, they tend to have a very linear line. You need certain objects to succeed. This one if no different. You need a special item to defeat the final boss. Without it you are dead. Finding that item is very difficult and requires an exact path to be followed. I found this more annoying than anything. Shame as it let a good game down.
