GMC My CPD
By General Medical Council
This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
If you’re a doctor practising in the UK, you’ll be familiar with the challenges of maintaining your CPD amid a pressured work schedule.
Opportunities for learning happen every day, though we don’t always have time to note them down, never mind reflect on them.
The GMC’s My CPD app for doctors lets you keep a record of your learning on the go. As long as you have your phone or tablet close by, you’ll be able to note points of learning and reflections, quickly and easily, there and then.
You can maintain as many activities as you wish, and categorise them according to the GMC’s Good medical practice domains, your personal development plan objectives, or however you like.
You can also assign CPD credits to activities and keep an eye on how many you’ve recorded during your appraisal year.
Of course, ultimately CPD’s about improving the care you provide for patients, and the app can help you chart that too. For any learning activity, you can note a change you plan to make to your practice, and it will prompt you at a future date to consider the effects of the change.
Many doctors already have a system for managing their CPD, though not necessarily a portable one. You’ll be able to export any or all of your learning activities from this app to another system as you need to.
Gone will be the days of having to store hundreds of certificates from conferences at seminars – you can take a picture with your device and append them to the learning activity on the app.
Tips and case studies to help you plan and reflect on your CPD and prepare for appraisal are also provided, plus news highlighting learning opportunities.
This app has been designed for all licensed doctors who are registered with the General Medical Council in the UK.
To keep your information safe and secure, the GMC’s My CPD app is designed not to run on a jailbroken device. This is in line with guidance sought from a leading information security partner on the serious information risks associated with running applications on a jailbroken device.
What's New in Version 1.0.2
Added support for case sensitivity Version 1.0.2
Not user friendly
Its a very good idea to invent this app for us. Keeping the GMC Domain in mind, keep us on track
But there are few things need to be sorted out.
The date of the event, its better to be shown in a calendar mode, because we don't always get to fill them in on the spot, sometimes we need to fill them in retrospectively. It would be easier for us if its in Calender mode for date entry, rather than the rolling one, so we dun need to go back and forth to check the rota and bla bla bla.
Most important thing of all, why do u guys use the done button instead of the save button, its so alien to us, sometimes we need to type it all out again in absolute agony just because we didn't hit the DONE button hidden where the sun didn't shine.
Why can't the developer put the save button right on the top right corner instead
With regards to the experience vs the domain sections, there are sometimes overlap, but the categories are so rigid, and we can only do one in each domain.
Thats a major pain, that means we need to do 2 separate entry for that reason. Why couldn't the developed just add a + function so we can add that on instead.
All in all, i really like this app, but this is far from perfect.
Please make it more user friendly for us .
So far I have to tear my hair out everytime I used it
Generally good as can use on the go but needs more work
Main issues are:
No breakdown between different types of CPD points (e.g external/ internal/ persona) which is always requested at appraisal/ for revalidation
No ability to export summary of points as PDF / breakdown
No desktop version/ web-based version to go alongside app - would be helpful for typing more easily and tidying up prior to appraisal
I downloaded the app soon after it was published and used it regularly. It was quite practical to sit in grand round and type as the teaching session went on. For a few months now I can't access the app anymore. I have sent an email to the app operator, to no avail. Didn't even get a reply! So I am unable to use any of my CPD stuff for my appraisal coming up. Frustrating!!
