Ratings and Reviews
Not very user friendly or helpful.
To find out what zones you need to pay for you’ve got to access the website and dig around for it. When you search a journey it doesn’t specify which zones you go through, so if you’re unfamiliar with the route and just go off the zone map, you can end up like I did, spending £30 on a week ticket for work, only to be told while trying to board the bus that the map including Newcastle city centre in the blue zone is incorrect.
Maybe a contact us option would be beneficial, possibly with instant message to make life easier for customers.
If you search a journey it doesn’t seem to give more than one option for each bus number. So if you wish to depart after a certain time you only get given the soonest, not later options.
I do appreciate the PayPal option, as I have the backup of being able to dispute the transaction if the company can’t resolve my issue.
Thank you for your feedback. We will certainly take your suggestions on board. In the meantime, if you need to contact us to clarify anything regarding your travel with us, you can call us on 0191 420 5050, message us on Facebook or Twitter or use the live chat facility on www.gonortheast.co.uk. The journey planner does include an option to select a later point in order to organise your journey more effectively. You can access this by clicking the top left corner where the departure time is stated.
An improvement but lacking functionality
I believe that all ticket types, not just day tickets should be able to be purchased through the app to prevent long queues waiting to board the bus, to reduce your carbon footprint and to stop people loosing tickets.
Buses that only stop at a certain stop a few times a day are either omitted completely from the live stop departures or they are said to stop there at every time of the day (e.g 6 and 10B at the Teams Gas Works).
As a user, when looking at the next departures from a particular stop I would expect that I would be able to click on a route for it then to display the full route and where the bus is along that route - similar to when you are on the Departures - My Journey section.
The reset password option was throwing errors and made me sign up for a brand new account - how inconvenient.
I do believe that Apple Pay should be a purchase option and don’t understand why I am prompted that it is not every time I open the app.
I do like the pink active ticket that sticks to the bottom of the app and the removal of the ghastly red that was splashed all over the old app.
New logo/ brand colours is also a + for me.
Hiya - cheers for the feedback. There have been some teething problems with the app, and one of those is the ability to tap on the departure screen to see where the bus is. This is on the roadmap for future development.
We hope that future enhancements will make the app much more user friendly and it will be a lot more stable at bank holiday times and service changes.
Lacking major functionality
Logged into the old app today to find it no longer works and have been forced install this version. Found it incredibly confusing and not very intuitive - I’ve recently started getting a bus to work and the old app was extremely useful for entering a destination or favourites and being able to see when the bus would come etc... basically being able to plan ahead which was invaluable as a new user to the service. I can’t seem to do that at all now and have no foresight when planning routes as I can’t easily go and look up future timetables etc without scrolling through umpteen different routes first... I basically just gave up and downloaded the pdf timetable from the website! Very disappointed. Makes me wonder who on earth at Go North East actually approved this?
Hello - thanks for the feedback. If you use Journey Planner, you can search in advance for buses on there. It comes in on the top of that page.
Favourite stop function is something we are looking at introducing.
Get all of your passes, tickets, cards, and more in one place.
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
