GravitySim is a simulation of Newtonian gravity. It allows the user to input the parameters of several bodies in a universe and the simulation uses those parameters to update the positions of the bodies in space based on their gravitational interactions with other bodies in the universe.
GravitySim employs the Barnes-Hut algorithm for calculating the gravitational interactions between bodies in the universe.
The algorithm allows the user to smoothly tune the simulation for accuracy (more computationally expensive) or speed (good for when there are many bodies but sacrifices accuracy).
With GravitySim you can:
. Create and investigate a wide variety astronomical situations and view gravitational effects of heavenly bodies on each other over time.
. Enter exact masses, dimensions, speeds and positions in 3-dimensions of bodies using real world values.
. Track individual bodies in a planetary system you have created.
. Put planetary rings around your planets and observe how nearby bodies deform planetary ring structures.
. Rotate the scene in 3-dimensions, as well as zoom in and out so you can view the action from and infinite number of perspectives.
. Use lighting effects to see the phases of the moon and the seasons on the planets or any other body in orbit around a star or light emitting body
. Store up to 20 different situations for later investigation.
. Simply enjoy the view of our solar system from the built-in default preset.
What's New in Version 4.30
1) Changed the way Show Axis function works. Currently when in Follow Me mode, only the local x,y,z axis is shown when the Show Axis switch is on. The global x,y,z axis is only shown when the Follow Me switch is off.
2) Changed the names of some of the parameters so they are more descriptive (e.g. XCoord is now X Position etc).
3) Corrected some embarrassing grammatical errors in the User Guide.
4) Fixed some formatting issues with the User Guide in order to make it more readable.
