HanZi Reader is an essential addition to your Chinese app toolbox that can help you learn to read Chinese characters by the touch of your finger. As you slide your finger across the screen, the dictionary entry for the touched word is instantly displayed for you to see, and the Chinese word pops up above your finger so that your finger never obscures the word you’re reading.
HanZi Reader is very fast. There is no waiting for the app to find your entry in a dictionary as it’s pre-loaded before the screen is displayed. Your reading flow is never impeded by waiting, so you’re able to really get a feel for the meaning and grammar of the text, as well as become familiar with the characters by continued exposure to them.
HanZi Reader comes with an initial 24 short Chinese idiom stories and also has a built in translator to create your own reading texts from characters pasted in from other apps or from the Internet. Custom texts are created using the CC-CEDICT dictionary with over 112,000 entires.
Universal app with custom interfaces for both the iPhone and iPad, and an option to purchase NeoSpeech Text-to-Speech voice synthesis should you require Mandarin pronunciation.
What's New in Version 2.2.3
o Fixed a problem some users were having with the speech engine where a restored licence was not being read properly. The speech engine would remain in demo mode and read aloud sample speech in a loop. Any users that are having problems with the speech should perform a restore from the in-app purchase screen to refresh the licence after installing this version.
o Fixed a problem where the splash screen would appear blank on iPads. Unfortunately, only a re-install of the app will fix this for existing users, but it's not that important to see the splash screen if you've got lots of texts saved in the app, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you really love the splash screen.
